Re: FEB2008a / MSC 1.11 Bug Reports

I'm seriously about to just give the fuck up on this mod. The crashes I get are really damn annoying and I get no error message at all. Every god damn time I hit a monster for a lot of damage, I CRASH. What the fuck.

I've tried the full installer from Filefront hosted by Sabre.
I've tried the full installer hosted by MiB.
I've tried the full installer hosted by Kuroneko.

What do I get? Oh let me list:
Crash.
Crash.
Crash.

This is all very frustrating. :|

Can you please post a WORKING full version RIGHT HERE in this thread for me, or just PM me the link? Cause I really want to play this mod again.

Re: FEB2008a / MSC 1.11 Bug Reports

It's gotta be something to do with the new code and our computers, the download isn't corrupt, the install doesn't seem to fail at all and the game loads fine [in the majority of cases]. The crash bug does seem to be most prevailant when a sprite is fireing, for example: Ice sheild collapseing, monster dieing/getting hit, glow toggling...

Re: FEB2008a / MSC 1.11 Bug Reports

I get the CTD without error message and the "cl: Error (CLIENT): Error: MSCLGlobals::Think --> Update GUI"-thing too.

It's really farking annoying that I can't even play for 2 minutes before the game just CTD's :oldcry:

And I get the bug where you can't select your char after loading too but that is fixed easily by just reconnecting.

But that CTD-bug really needs to be fixed ASAP.

I'm gonna upload a vid to YouTube too :p

I don't know if this is a bug/has been reported yet but when I start up my listen server (to test maps) I don't see my weapons/fists.

The vid as promised:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xj1Q8Be-Ip4

Plz note that it's not edited in any way, I've had a few beers, I just had one hand available to control the game and I filmed it with my N95 :p

So don't expect something of extreme quality :D

I tried to use the character recovery map for a friend and the server would keep crashing repeatedly with this error "vertex node out of field"

Odd bug with Greater Maldora minions; they're invulnerable to all but holy damage. Fire, Poison, Lightning, Ice, and Neutral have no effect.

Re: FEB2008a / MSC 1.11 Bug Reports

Actually the Greater Minions of Maldora are vulnerable to damage other than holy. You just have to find out what they don't like. I've found their weaknesses to be rather "ironic" myself.
Uh, on a side note, I've noticed the projectile gravity situation has changed. The Ice Troll Lobbers on Lodagond-1, in specific, seem to have been too fixed XD. Now their giant snowballs waft gently through the air as though they were cotton balls on a summer breeze. The trolls nearest the castle doors can lob a snowball all the way to the end of the map past spawn. But, you still can't use the Thornbow to hit one of them on their perches, even if you jump!

No, for some reason we tried everything and nothing worked. They either took no damage or were so resistant that it was worthless. No damage indicator appeared in the event HUD, either. At least, this is what happened with the Greater Lightning/Venom minions.

True, the lightning and venom ones are tricky...

That ye may have to fix. It’d be nice if they had them though.

I can tell ye the metal spider (with the submodel indexing adding to the script) seems to work fine. I think ye can go see it on the ultra-beta servers (Keledrosprelude2) – but it may have issues due to its client side not matching up with the server (I remember that caused a problem when we substituted a model on FleshEater a ways back – if it crashes, or comes up white, tell me, and I’ll undo it – but you should at least be able to see it.)

I'm seriously about to just give the **** up on this mod. The crashes I get are really damn annoying and I get no error message at all. Every god damn time I hit a monster for a lot of damage, I CRASH. What the ****.

*sigh* Sorry – I can tell ye that all the links currently on the front page are perfect, and that Sabre’s was perfect from the start. So whatever problem you are having, we don’t have a fix for yet, and/or it isn’t on your end (maybe a bjorked server install.)

For anyone in doubt: msc_installer.exe should be exactally 336 MB (353,223,982 bytes)
- It contains a few files that the previous one did not, including fmod.dll (most of the others are re-generated in game, thus not good for checking)

As such, you are most likely good. Please send your msc/log_cldll.log error entries, it may help.

Obviously not. ;) Took out the item sprites, but they were all nicely packed in their own little folder. Most of our players are managing to play several hours at a time without issues, including some brand new ones who never had an MSC install before, so I’m not sure what is up in these cases. My own full fresh install is working fine, aside from those items noted in the bug list.

Most of these seem to be client errors (v.bad) – the two biggest client changes were the scoreboard and the sprite consolidation. However – “Host_Error: UserMsg: Not Present on Client 255” – from what I’ve read, is usually caused by a server<->client dll mismatch – and this suggests maybe we have an #ifdef or #ifndef where we should not causing that issue, and maybe some others.

Orochme said:
Mainly, anything that you need done. The central reason I don't fix things is because I worry i'm going to give you a broken model and you're going to stick it in the betapack unaware that it is broken. With patches only once or twice a month, this scares the hell outta me. With this setup, I could fix the skeleton anim, stick it in, and you'd be set for the next betapack. We'd be using the same stuff, so there'd be no worry from me. Not only that, but other modellers could put their stuff on it too.
I told ye want we needed done – sfaik there’s nothing in the weapon models that needs doing. Whether it’s done FTP or Sven doesn’t matter – it’s the same bloody situation, I have to upload, you have to download and upload, I have to download again, and you have to be willing to try. Either way, if you break a model, and I don’t notice, it stays broken.

I’d understand, if it was like where MIB, Shuriken, and I, where we’re all fuxing with the code all at once, but that simply isn’t the case.

Nevermind that figuring out how to setup the damn thing, and host it without it interfering with my game servers or my work would be an epic feet in and of itself. I’m certainly not taking time away from fixing errors like these to do that just because you wont accept my files:

cl: Error (CLIENT): Error: MSCLGlobals::Think --> Update GUI
That one I’ve had reported but not had happen to me yet. I’m sure however it is in some way related to:

- Console also reads: Error (CLIENT): Error: CNewCharacterPanel::Update -->
Which is your second error in the video where ye can’t click on your character and have scroll bars (read top page first plzktnx) – only solution to that one is restart. (If you are a listen server, you’ll have to quit HL – on a DS you can just retry)

…and before you post another drunken video - Host_Error: UserMsg: Not Present on Client 255 – yeah, we know that one too, reconnect. ;)

Again, either the sprite consolidation or the scoreboard changes that are likely fuxing with something – it’s just as likely my fault as Shuriken’s or MiB’s though. Shuriken has already submitted a fix for the CNewCharacterPanel error, but it can’t be applied without a client-side patch, which means updating everyone all over again.

No, for some reason we tried everything and nothing worked. They either took no damage or were so resistant that it was worthless. No damage indicator appeared in the event HUD, either. At least, this is what happened with the Greater Lightning/Venom minions.
Just took out two G.Lightning minions myself with a lighting rod. You won’t get a damage indicator for anything they are immune to.

========

*whew* All that being said, we may have server-side fixes for the following in the near future:
• Strobe effect
• Vote PVP
• admins.txt not reading in

Well after looking through my downloads, out of the three installers I downloaded only one was that exact size. After installing it though I still get the crash to desktop bug.

Attached is my log.

Error (CLIENT): Error: __MsgFunc_Item --> Begin
Interesting...

Do you have both a Shield of Urdual and a Raven Mace? Bleh... NVM - yer the crashy one, not the run/walk issue.

It looks like its some item registration issue you may have, but I'm not sure which one. (Could also be the result of character corruption - but I wouldn't want to write it off to that.)

Re: FEB2008a / MSC 1.11 Bug Reports

The crash bug can happen on new characters with very few items so personally I find that doubtful.

I've got that same error message on some of my earlier logs but it doesn't appear on my latest crash log.

Re: FEB2008a / MSC 1.11 Bug Reports

Fresh characters crashing like that eh? Hrmm...

When I put the new installer together, I crammed just about everything into it, including some stuff I'm fairly certain we don't need - however, I never restored the original config.cfg, as it was simply generated by some random persons install and doesn't appear to have been customized in anyway, and has caused hardware problems for a few people in the past... But... This mod is so old, it may actually be dependant on some old setting in the config.cfg to work on some of the newer systems. IDK... Just a random theory to show you just how lost I am on this subject.

If you want to test that theory, ye can download the MSC1.0 config: here You can also try my config here - but while mine does not crash regularly, it is using the default install, save the changed binds, so I think it less likely to resolve anything for ye.

If that does help, be sure to write back right quick, but don't count on it - tis a stab in the dark to say the least.

Re: FEB2008a / MSC 1.11 Bug Reports

Well so far so good, been playing a while with that first config you posted and no crashes and I'm not experiencing the walk/run bug... I'll let you know if anything changes.

Edit: hmm may have spoke too soon. Looked like it was working fine and much more stable than before but two people using rebuke undead on a zombie seemed to crash it. I've still yet to experience the walk/run bug with this config tho and I'm seeing less strobe problems.

Edit 2: Ok I think I may have something - usually I disable the music via options>multiplayer>advanced but if I don't do this it doesn't seem to crash. I've been playing for about 15 minutes without a crash now.

Edit 3: Ok I'm positive the music is the problem. I just played through the entirety of demon temple without crashing with music enabled. Not to completely disregard the spite theory though, it could be MP3 files failing to play during effects.

Re: FEB2008a / MSC 1.11 Bug Reports

Hrmmm... Do me a favor: go to your Options->Audio and turn the EAX on. Restart Half-life, see if it stays checked, and see if you start crashing again. If it does, that maybe the issue, just uncheck it. If that's the case maybe we can work it so that'll be off by default rather than on, as it is in the default install (and at least that wouldn't involve re-updating the new installer *shiver*.)

Re: FEB2008a / MSC 1.11 Bug Reports

Hmm... Eax seems to enable and work fine, although it does seem to cause slow-down. The only thing I can link the crash to is the disabling of the music which must stop the mp3s from working as intended.

Re: FEB2008a / MSC 1.11 Bug Reports

Gibbing seems to happen mostly with hoarfrost shard's ice lance's DOTs when they are very low (at least for me).
Whenever I shoot an elite archer with ice lance and the DOT is 0.8 per second, if I don't finish the monster before he dies from DOTs he gibs everytimes.
