Does # of players affect items in chests?

Doing low-mid level maps (curse of bear gods, demontemple, the_keep, b_castle) with one other person on lan and always getting Health/Mana pots and Iron bolts in every chest is really disheartening (is this how its actually supposed to be?).

What factors into having an artifact chest spawn?

We're only rarely seeing them which also sucks and im wondering what factors into having them appear and who they appear for.

Yes more players = more loot, this affects everything, more players means more chance of artifact spawn, more chance of the rare things from arti's, better things in individualized chests etc.

Spawn chances go up with more players, in most cases, it goes up exponentially - this does of course mean with one or two players, in most cases, you are in for a world of pain.

It's technically possible to find every weapon with just one player now, however, the odds are so miniscule in some cases... Same with two, in a few cases, although never nearly as bad. TBH - the game is just balanced to hate off-line players. ;)

Would there be any hope in maybe a serv side cvar to change the scale for spawn chances :<? if not, would it kill balance to up the lower end of the spawn rates per players?

And what sort of drop rates are we looking at for everything with two people because in roughly 30~ demon temple runs we have literally got nothing more than Pots and Bolts.

Eh?
Apparently only item that requires 3 people to spawn it, is the greater ice blade at spoiler1.jpg.

It's the only artifact chest that's setup that way, however, the artifact chest will override that on rare occasions, so it still doesn't *require* three players - it just requires that many to raise the spawn chance. Many independent chests, however, have their own requirements.

No. At least not until the current team abandons the game or the game world is considered complete. There is a place-holder cvar in place for that situation, but it's not tied to anything, as meanwhile, we need as many on-line players as possible, and thus the game is designed to discourage off-line play. Some quests are designed to require as many as five players to complete, and that's liable to only get more stringent in the future.

Demontemple chests are using mostly get_chance_rare and get_chance_ultra_rare - neither has an artifact chest... So... At two players, that's about a 2%-8% chance. At three, it'd be 12%-30%. There's a minhp requirement too (450hp), but it should dump it, if no one on the server meets it.

Technically no, Greater ice Blade requires 3 or more people to get it to spawn in an art chest without having to play the map it spawns on many many times, the only other place I've seen it where you can get it from is a map which the level requirement is much higher then the map where it spawns in an art chest. And there's that 5 player quest you can do once you reach a level high enough to play on the_wall.

Welp, would it be too spoilerish to ask what the minhp req for b_castle is? :<

Im also curious, what exactly is the reasoning behind the minhp requirement?

The older minhp requirement only kicks in if there's players on the map who meet if. If there are no such players about when the chest spawns, there is no such requirement. This was to prevent "ninja newbs" from steeling loot from the folks who actually worked for it.

When it is in effect on b_castle, it's 400.

Spawn chances for the best unique items in the final chest are at 3%/per player, until you reach 5 players, at which point one or the other is guaranteed. At seven players or more, both items are guaranteed. (Plus extra random "good", "great", and "epic" items at 3, 4, and 5 players, and extra gold/potion re-supply.)

The "hidden chest" contains 50 gold/player, additional resupply pots for every 2-4 players, and at least one resistance potion and random "good" item. At 2 players it contains an extra resistance potion and "good" item. At 3 players, yet another resistance potion. At four, 4 players another "good" item, and at 6 and 7 players it contains additional immunity potions. There are no minhp requirements for the hidden chest, regardless of the strength of players present.

So, if a low hp runs to the chest opens it, he'll find nothing, and then if someone who meets the requirement opens it, he'll see the items?

Roger, assuming both players were present when the chest spawned. If the low HP player opens the chest *after* the higher level character opens it, the additional items will still be there (assuming the previous player didn't loot them). If the reverse happens, the items will not appear until the higher level character opens it. This is to ensure the player deserving of the reward gets first pick. Regardless of the order, however, the spawn chances are only checked once.

MSC: We know complicated. ;)

Under the next patch (which will hopefully be up today) we've a new system that works purely by damage points, but it's only been applied to the newer chests, and has yet to be thoroughly tested. Downside to that system is that only the players in the top 75% of damage points will be able to get "quality" items, regardless of who opened the chest when. Once we're confident that it's working well, it'll take awhile before it propagates backwards to the older chests.

If there are only two people and only one of the two qualifys for 75% of the damage done, will the items still be the same if both players qualify?

could I also get ms_snows stuff? :<

The ms_snow chests are older still, and one has the added complication of an Artifact Chest that was tacked onto it later.

The Morc chest has an Artifact Chest with various items with spawn chances ranging from 5%-20%/player, but no hp requirements (though it will have a top 75% damage point requirement in the next patch). There's a few minor items in the chest itself requiring 300hp.

The final chest has a requirement of 600hp for some of the niftier items, although one of the niftiest, oddly enough, has no HP requirement at all, and a flat 1 in 5 chance with 2 players or more. >_>

The niftier spell scrolls and swords in the chest have a 1%-3%/player chance until you have 4 players or more, in which case some are guaranteed. 4 players or more also guarantees some additional nifty spells, and 7 or more, still more nifty spells. (Plus 100gp/player, resupply pots/player, magic arrow stacks/player, and resistant/immunity potions/4 players)

Chests so affected are Artifact Chests, and Individualized Chests. In the case of Artifact Chests, the items offered will be the same, but the player with the most damage points always gets first pick. In the case of Individualized Chests, it will vary from chest to chest (some have fixed items, others have spawn chances and/or randomized items).
