I'm sure other people have seen this as well...

I stopped playing the game a few months ago, and I was only a few levels behind the leading levelers, and I played all the time after a few weeks since the game was first released.

I join games now and I see plenty of level 40+ people...

I can highly doubt people would play this game alone for days straight doing solid leveling... There isn't much you can do before you feel like playing with people or decide to play something else.

anywho... vote/post your opinion

I've watched a lot of these 40+'ers evolve on my server, some of them don't seem to play much of anywhere else. Most of the three monther's are legit. I've been watching this go on for nearly a year now.

You level very, very, VERY slowly playing alone - ya might be able to get the first few levels faster, but once yer in the grind, there's no way ya can get to level 40 in three months playing solo (sans cheats). Ya pretty much have to play in very large groups to gather XP and items efficiently from level 20 on.

It was a lot harder to get to 40 when we started out. But groups of level 40 players have been common for the past year or so. They will become more and more common as time goes on. Then again, the high level players quit playing a lot more often than the low and mid level players, regardless of character age. There's just nothing left to see, get, or challenge them.

Most 40+ new faces I saw are low levels with uber parry so they aren't stronger than the average level 30 really.
So far as I know, the best-by-far way to get exp for me was to solo foutpost like 20 times a day. Now I did it too many times and I reached my goal so I don't see any point in doing it again... (One whole run gives like 3%)
Usually playing with other people to train pays less than being alone since there's so many magic noobs leeching all the xp with CL or fireball while you take all the hits.
Oh I almost forgot, despite the monster ramping system, I never saw anyone or myself get bonus exp... monsters just have triple hp and 0 more xp points so far as I know. For example, on skycastle the usually 350 hp Fallen Knights had above 1000 hp and I still got 80~100 XP (was using a sword) without mentionning how they end up giving only 16 XP when you knock them down more than 3 times.
I'm not whining or complaining, just reporting  I don't want the inturnetz to make me look like I'm mad when I'm not...

Like humansteak said, the majority of new level 40s did it by whoring parry. They just afk with some potions and bam 18 hours later they are a few levels higher (Im looking at you nando, I saw your server that was on bloodrose for 18 hours and 45 minutes). Most of them dont even have a skill above 30, maybe 32, or HP above 750 which is what really makes you a level 40.

The XP multiplier works. It works insane well on ms_snow and Cliecert to the degree where I was considering nerfing it (was getting 250% xp on giant snow boars with 7 high end players, which gets to be insane, and it wasn't taking any longer to kill them. ><) On skeletons, it doesn't work when they get back up, but neither do the HP or damage multipliers.

And you'll get a lot more XP taking out foutpost in a group than single player, if yer hitting it repeatedly, as you tear through it many times faster (especially if you have someone supporting you with Blizzard, or otherwise helping not only to kill, but to dibilitate monsters.)

You are here --> X
(Im looking at you nando, I saw your server that was on bloodrose for 18 hours and 45 minutes).

How did he manage to keep his server running for 18 hours? My server crashes after half an hour due to running out of free edicts.

I dunno, but nando told me he had 30 swords the other day.

He's level 44. That means he has a whopping 58 parry. I asked him if he sat on Atholo all day or something... I guess I was right. XD

Nando already got a character deletion for trying to dupe with rollbacks, but blasto restored because he 'donated'. Its pretty apparent hes willing to use exploits to get ahead, thus he wasted no time in abusing parry training.

Nobody said it was a cheat. You called it abusing in your own words. Abusing something that isn't the way the game is supposed to be played is just as bad as cheating.

Why does anyone really care...

I'm really surprised by this community. I seen so many people complain about what this person is doing, or what that person is doing. This person is exploiting like this, that person is cheating like that. I get the feeling that there are too many jealous or prideful players in this game. For example, "*WHINE* That guy is a higher level than me, and I played for longer", or "*WTF* I'm the only one who can have the highest parry in all of MSC". I'm sure no-one has really said that, it is the impression of what I feel others are thinking.

I remember when I first started playing and wanting to have the "GOD" character in the game. I spent a lot of time to get my main character up there, to the point where I wasted whole weekends and a week off work to do it. Now that my character is up there, it doesn't matter so much anymore. Now I feel that I don't have a "GOD" character, but a character that can hold his own. However, I don't feel like my game play is as good as the long time players, because I haven't learned a lot about the game in my quest to be a high level player. Also, because I haven't played a lot with the other long time characters, I don't know nearly as much about the game as I should for the level my character has.

I think that should be the point. If you see a 40th level character, that was an "Adventurer" a month ago, I feel that you should think "Is that 40th level newb going to get me killed?". Why? Because like I said before that 40th level newb probably doesn't know how to play with others and just looks out for his/her self.

If you look at the other MMORPG's like WoW or EQ, people are actually willing to pay for a high level character. Most people in those games don't like that because when they play with those people with paid for characters, they don't have the experience to effectively play that high level character. So, is anyone in this MSC community making any money selling characters? I doubt anyone would pay money for a high level character in a completely free game.

In closing, why does anyone else care about other people's character level?

We don't care that people are high levels. Hell, if we did, Shuriken would be dead for beating us all out ;-)

We care that these people are, most likely, using some cheat or exploit to make our hard work look like crap. If you want to spend months building a character stronger than ours, more power to ya. It's your life, it's your wasted time. However, if you build a character as strong/stronger than ours in.. A month or so.. Something isn't right.

In closing, cheaters suck. ;-)

So what about you...

I'd like to point something out about what I first said about another player in the game. Shurik3n, although I haven't played with you a lot and don't really know you, I can see that through your posts that you know a lot about the game and others in this game hold a good deal of respect for you as player in the game. Having said that, I too also feel that your playing skills are to be highly respected. However, I may be wrong about this, but I seem to remember that you were lower level than my character back in Dec. or Jan. and now you are way higher than me. I don't care that you are higher than me as it really doesn't matter. But what bothers me is that you are attacking Nando for his/her quick rise in the game and how he/she did it. Why? Because I feel that you too must have used some exploit/cheat to get your level 55 parry, especially if I'm right about you having been lower level than me. Does anyone else feel it's hypocritical of Shurik3n to call out Nando on parry training? Shurik3n, please tell the rest of us how you got your level 55 parry. The experience needed for that level must be insanely high and could not be reached by any other means unless you too have done a lot of parry training. Are we all to believe that you got it through "legitimate" game play? Maybe others highly respect your game play, or your apparent standing in this community, enough to overlook how you got so high so fast. Since I don't know you anymore than I know Nando, it just looks like I see the pot calling the kettle black to me.

Actually, Shuriken's stats are more appropriate for his parry level, while nando's level is just parry inflated; his stats are more comparable to your average level 36-38.

Shuri got his parry levels through many months of hard work. After many MONTHS (Key word 'months'), it's not hard to get that amount of parry training.

Nando did it in about 2 weeks (Maybe less, I really don't know).

Shuriken didn't use exploits - the exploit Nando use(s)/(d) wasn't even around/usable/discovered/used when Shuri "rose to power".

are you shuriken? were you holding his hand for those months?

I don't see anything wrong with training parry skill... its a skill like all others...

The visible level on the scoreboard doesn't mean SHlT compared to what you can accomplish in combat.

I'm not really attacking Shurik3n...

To The Man In Black, Shurik3n, and anyone else in this community. Please understand I am not trying to attack Shurik3n personally, I just feel it wrong of Shurik3n and anyone else in this community to call out someone for parry training when it seems obvious that Shurik3n and others in the game have done it too. If anyone has a parry level higher than 40 and their character is less than 6 months old, it very likely that some parry training has been going on.

What I'd like to know is what Thothie, Blasto, or other developers feel is acceptable parry training? I've seen Thothie post how to train one's parry skill, just let a monster beat on you while having your shield up, and some suggestions as to which monsters would be best to help train the parry skill. So what does it take to get the "exploiter" label and what's considered "fair" parry training? I want to be able train my parry and not be called a "parry whore" for doing it. I don't really care about the level, but I do know that by training your parry you do get more mana. I'd like to be able to get my SC up there and it helps if you have a lot of mana to do it.

I have a high parry level because of all the training I do that places me in combat with monsters. If you look at my skills, I only have 1 besides SC that is lower than nando's highest level besides parry. My parry level reflects the time I have spent leveling my other skills, not just parry. It is true that I have not been playing this game as long as others that are lower levels than me, I've only been playing for ~1.5 years.

I'm kinda with Slaytanic there. So is it wrong "just" to level parry? At some point during lower level I do parry training on bosses that I can solo such as Timidus Textur and Calrain just to boost like 1 or 2 parry level a visit if it's still fast enough.

I ususally only "train" parry if I'm within 50,000 xp of levelling, usually that's even when I'm in combat (or I start tanking for other people because of my urdulian shield).
What Nando did is kind of abusive of phoenix, and I believe(read: not sure) that's why Thothie nerfed the phoenix armor.
