I don't want a wipe as much as any other but I think we need one... or will eventually....

reasons:

Who has dark armor? EVERYONE What is dark armor "supposed" to be? Like near top tier, mucho difficult to get, very high up there. What is the point of Knight's armor and other armor's when Dark is pretty much accessable to most people... If you are going to buy knights armor it's only for the time that it takes you to get dark armor, a short time. (like a few days)

New players... HARDLY ANY! well that first wipe threat had scared them all away... but right now, All the strong people wanting to go to all of the new
custom maps built solely for strong characters, are scaring away all the new people who don't have a chance at surviving a single hit from a dwarf zombie... who does 25.0 dmg at a fast rate to me with "dark armor" which is quite a lot even though i have 507 hp and a shield... practically every map aside past the "vanilla" maps are built for people who invest into all weapons and have 15+ sc

Maybe I'm the only one who doesn't like being Mr. Jack-of-all-Trades... But when I first started playing I would shoot for a cool title... Knight, Punisher, Assasin, etc. When someone told me I have to invest into everything to be as strong as they were... It totally fucking killed it... ("it" as in thinking i can be strong as well as cool)

I'll try and put this in the perspective of someone new coming to play this game:
Wow, this game is pretty awesome. I'm gonna use swords AND a bow. I am gonna be badass! shooting arrows and then slicing up anyone who survives and gets close enough. Heck yes! I'm a Ranger! Oh! wow that guy is really strong.... I can't believe he is taking on that tough monster over there all by himself... wow...
"Hey, *****and-so how much hp do you got?"
"535"
"Wow! o_O I only have like 127"
"lol"
"What combination gets 'Sheild Warrior'?"
"Parry + BA"
"Wow! what level are your stats?"
"20+ in each"
"o_O wow"
I never wanted to be a Ranger, I think my friend did, I wanted to be a Knight or Punisher. But now this new person gives up their cool title to be stronger...

I know, I know... This is how Master-sword is SUPPOSED to be right?
I have some ideas... I think they may be quite awesome...

1st idea:
Your title affects your exp gain.
i.e. Swordman gains 2x exp from using swords but gains .5x exp from blunt and axe. Swordmaster gains 2.5x exp gain and then 1x exp from blunt and axe. Knight gains 1.5x exp gain from sword and axe, then .5x from blunt

I think this will encourage a player to specialize in something early on and then when even the 2.5x exp gain slows or hp isn't cutting it against current trainable monsters they'll want to choose another skill to back up their first. There are still many loopholes or ways to bypass this idea for a system such as, training in all weapons first, then changing to swordman, After changing to swordmaster raising everything up before becoming knight....

The socalled "rusty" weapons can either be renamed "training" weapons (in the description ofcourse keep it being considered rusty, and it will ofcourse stay looking rusty)

[THIS STUFF WILL MAKE MOST PEOPLE MAD WHO LIKE MASTERSWORD FOR THE LACK OF BOUNDARY IN WHAT YOU "CAN" USE]
The first weapon you choose is the only kind of weapon you can use until you become level 10 in it... then you are a "master" and can choose another if you want to...

You can only use the training weapon of each weapon class until you become a class of that title.

All weapon skills lay "dormant" other than the one you are currently training in or using as your "title weapon(s)" hp and stat bonuses dormant as well

Certain weapons and/or rare/powerful weapons can only be used by certain "Master Title"s or "Hybrid Title"s

Titles are changeable or resetable by way of npc + money (i'm shooting for making visits to an Urualian temple worthwhile... talking to priests w/o fear of molestation)

Don't wanna add this as another separate "idea"
Parry doesn't affect your title at all... BUUUUT it is the ONLY stat/skill that you keep nomatter what weapon sets you have.
2nd idea:
slight/more than slight nerf and/or decrease in # of all monsters in non vanilla maps +additions as of msc...

Most monsters are easily soloed... TOO easily... I'm not saying make every monster a team effort to kill... but at least put them near to the levels players would be at to encourage teamwork...

3rd idea:
The common items from chests, especially the ones after bosses drop their supposed rare/powerful items at a lowered rate (please not lower for tork! >_< well... maybe) and these rare and powerful items from chests actually SELLABLE for a nice quantity of gold to merchants, ofcourse a player will always pay a lot more for it... unless they are stupid...

4th idea:
Magic... hmmm... Offensive and Defensive magic can be different skills or have strength in one or the other affect title. (ideas for titles:
offensive = darkmage
offensivemastery = blackmage (is a color + mage copyright by SquareEnix?)
BA + off = Soul Crusher
S + off = Dark Knight
Ax + off = Soul Reaper
SA + off = Spirit Ripper
Ma + off = Demonhand
Ar + off = Archer Arcana =P
defensive = lightmage
defensivemastery = whitemage
offensive + defensive = wizard
BA + def = Cleric or Paladin
S + def = White Light or Silver Light (can runescape sue too?)
Ax + def = Light Epsilon (ragnarok too?)
MA + def = Monk,Divine Monk or Angelhand (for balance)
SA + def = Silent Guardian
Ar + def = Quincy!!? JK!! Piercing Light (Bleach, for those who dunno)

Hmmm... well as of now I have no more ideas that'll piss people off buuuuut I'll try and explain the character thingy more:
(this is partially the same and different to my earlier stuff)

Idea #1
Billy starts off as an adventurer, he chose a sword as his first weapon... Billy recieves a Rusty Training sword and starts mangling rats gaining 1x exp... He trys some other rusty weapons that he buys but he finds that he likes swords the most. He becomes a swordsman and his exp gaining is now 2x while using swords... He again trys other weapons but finds that they only recieve half exp now... Billy decides to use swords for a while longer and now is a swordmaster he now gains 2.5x exp! Billy trains with swords some more... His gain in swords has slowed down but his training in other skills is back to 1x rate. Billy raises his axehandling next, as it is his second favorite weapon skill, to 5 and he recieves the barbarian 2x exp bonus and then the 25x exp bonus when it is at 10. Finally Billy's axe handling catches up to swordmanship and he has the nice hp gain he has been benefitting all along and also a 2.5x gain for axes and swords!
(still can't think of an idea for discouraging an even raising after a mastery... OH! All skills other than your title skill or current weapon recieve negative exp... if more than one weapon used to kill a foe... more damaging weapon gains exp difference between other weapon exp used.)

Idea#2
Billy is an adventurer and chooses the sword as his starting weapon... When he opens his player stats only swordmanship is lit up and all other skills are in gray. When he swings a weapon that isn't his current trainable skill he has misses 100% Billy trains and becomes a swordman allowing him to equip swords better than the training sword he was is using and. When Billy gets to level 10 in his swordmanship he is able to weild but doesn't necessarily have access to much more powerful or rare swords... But Billy who has only started this game doesn't have one. So Billy goes to a Priest of Urdual and for a small fee chooses a new training weapon... what!? a spell? Billy trains in offensive magic but his title still stays Sword Master. While he is training offensive magic Billy's hp bonuses from sword and stats are not calculated but he keeps his parry ability. Billy's sword and other equipment are stored in the bank. When Billy's off. magic is at 5 he gains access to more spells similar to what he gained in swordmanship with weapons. And at 10 off. magic he recieves a mastery allowing him to use a few new spells but not as powerful or as rare as the ones he would gain as a pure off. magic user. Billy's title changes to Dark Knight and he now gains exp from swords and magic. Billy continues to play and decides that he wants to be able to use blunt arms. So Billy goes to an Urdualian priest and pays a greater fee than before and is able to use a training hammer. Billies hp and stat bonuses are again revoked and he still keeps his now higher parry skill while he trains in blunt. At 5 he gains weapons, at 10 he gains more but not as strong as a pure. Billy talks to the priest and chooses 2 skills out of the 3 to excel in. He chooses Blunt and Sword and becomes a Cavalier, and gains exp from blunt arms as well as swords... his spell casting hp, mana, and stat bonuses are not returned and his magic level is still a decent number but it is greyed out.

WOOT! for somewhat complicated or confusing systems that will prolly not work with MSC.... and are probably not desired too either!
Thank you for reading this far (skimmer/skippers imma cut off ur legs at the kneecaps!)

NO WIPES >: (

if people want to start anew, thats what the second and third slots are for...and if i remember thothies statement correctly...

THERE WILL BE NO CHARACTER WIPE, if a feature or bugfix requires a character wipe, said feature or bugfix will not be implemented.

I can't bring myself to read all of that right now, but as for the Sword-ish titles give sword boosts, that brings to mind the saying "The rich get richer"

Yes, it would be cool to gain a bunch of exp for having a high sword, but it's just going to make training too easy. If anything, a sword title gives more sword DAMAGE (I think someone else already suggested that)

read it all, and I love the idea#2/1st idea the best, something that allows one to customize and still be powerful, while those that wish to master all can and not become a ubber over powered being.

as for character wipe, I won't even say what I think about it because I could care less. (its only a game)

I agree that tweaks for specialization and rewards for doing so would benice and put a new life into the game. I'd be working for a title with a bonus rather than "Okay I have to have max level everything if I want to be the strongest". Dunno how much of your ideas would be considered, but there willbe no wipe, so the onlythings that would be implimented is changes that don't requier one, which are small and over time.

...Don't even make it start looking like there MIGHT be. ( I am came THIS close to deleting the whole thread - change the title back, and I will!) [/RAGE]

Who has dark armor? EVERYONE

Well, yeah, part of the issue with that people have been cheating and warping to the end of World Walker. Last patch put an end to that (try it, you'll see what I mean). Other issue is, if you have a high level escort, you can just breeze through it (not much I can do, as most of our vets seem to think it's their god-given duty to power level the nubs). There's also other issues, like the fact that the Lord BS down there was a lot harder when you didn't have so many different things you could throw at him. It's still a level 20'ish dungeon (as it was intended to be).

I may set it up so it spawns a chest with a chance of DA, and some other items, rather than 100% DA every time, as others have suggested. I already have things setup to allow this. Granted, you do have to go through two other lengthy dungeons with no rewards in them what-so-ever to get there.

There WILL be more armors, that will make DA look passae in the near future.

But I'd turn DA into fruit-a-balloon underwear through the scripts, before I'd even consider wiping characters over it.

New players... HARDLY ANY! well that first wipe threat had scared them all away... but right now, All the strong people wanting to go to all of the new
I have more new players on my server than old ones, judging by the chat logs. Most players stop playing this game about the time they acquire the majority of the high end items; most don't hang on after that. Very few regulars on my server are actually vets. (I can count them on my fingers)

[TITLE RANT]
As ya know, I prefer the ability to train across the board. We've had this discussion in, twenty or thirty other threads. I'm more apt to let you type in your own title, than restrict your weapon array because of it. There's not much I can do about it in the near future anyways.

Although when the Apostle thing came around, I was going to set it up so you could only be one type of Apostle (with appropriate weapon shard), and you would have to get together with the other four types to enter Lor Malgoriand's castle. You'd need to have 40-60 in a particular stat to become a particular type of Apostle, and could only be one type at a time (you could change, but you'd have to do the Frozen Tear and Observatory quests over again). That's about as restrictive as I'd get.

Quoted for truth. If enough people want a seprate section for I might set aside a port for it. That is about it. I have a few ideas to make it sort of "fresh" that some people might enjoy.

I like the bonus damage for your strong suit thing, but fo the love of god don't let people type in their own titles. Yeah, there are some cool people on here, but it's the internet, there are some people who have a hard time intellectually competing with a brick on here too. I don't want to see "l0r|) Pwn3rerzzz" as a title. Pulling parry off the title list is a good tentative idea, do it for a patch and see how it flys. It's great to encourage training in everything, it's not so great that the best thing in the game would be a level 40 "adventurer". One aside from this, would criticals ever be considered to be put in? Would add a bit of spice to combat without playing with balance substantially.

If you're going to nerf DA.... then um... well DA is already 50% reduction... gold is supposedly 55% And there are going to be new uber armors after that. So are we gonna have uber 60-75% reduction armor?

Edit: Ooo, damage bonus sounds nice... and maybe I will make a new character... Sorry about this post making peoples angry SORRY THOTHIE!
But yeahh... Just thought there should be a reward for specilization similiar too or different from the hp bonus that most people get from raising everything...

I could care less if there were one or not - on the one hand, I'd be "even" with everyone else again, and on the other, who's gonna help a poor level 19 (or is it 17?) fencer get his "ph4t l3wt" when everyone else is level 19? It'd be a mad dash to all the chests if people could even get through maps like the world walker series, it's bad enough when people don't plan ahead and say who gets what if it spawns, if you've played highlands recently and gone through the spider cave with more than 1 other person without saying much, you'll know what i mean.

Besides, I'm (almost) working on a level 15-25 (what i mean by that is there will be mobs that will range from level 15 at the beginning, and, getting close to the "end" will be increasingly more difficult) map that's connected to a 20-30 dungeon... I'm kinda hoping to get thothie to add a new weapon to the game so it can be in there, but for one thing I haven't even started the map, nor have I discussed anything with him. I probably won't until the map is complete and we can gauge the difficulty, to make the reward worth it (and not insanely easy to get for how good it is, or way harder than it should be etc.). I'm thinking axe or sword (or maybe both with a 40% chance to randomly spawn one or something) that does 50% holy damage (extra damage to unholy/undead creatures, holy doesn't affect living so it will do half damage to anything else)

Suspect damage reduction would have to cap around 60-65%, but there are many other advantages one can stick on armor besides damage reduction, such as elemental resistance, speed increase, weight reduction, and various special abilities (like reloc crystal at will, reduce XP/gold loss on death, etc.)

... I'm kinda hoping to get thothie to add a new weapon to the game so it can be in there, but for one thing I haven't even started the map, nor have I discussed anything with him.

As I've said in the past, I can add any number or type of items/weapons/npcs/monsters you need for your map, but yeah, I'd nerf rewards based on difficulty.

I do have to back peddle a bit and say I'd at least need to see a work in progress - I wasted FAR too much time writing and debugging custom map scripts during September-November for maps that will likely never see the light of day.

Remember, however, there's SFAIK no limit on the actual number of items I can add, but only on the models and sprites I can add to the game. So if your item/weapon uses no new models/sprites, then it's less of an issue.

Ya sent me a sheild, a dagger, and a sword, with no world or player models, just view models.

That is something I should mention, since armor doesn't require view models, I can merge into the existing sets of armor, and thus, armor/helms/crests do not count against the model either (unlike view models, which I cannot merge at all, atm).

We need better leather armors, an as such they should have the speed/damage bonuses with them to make it characteristic.

Because as well all know, leather armor makes you do more damage! ^_^

Leather armor is already lighter, tis where the advantage comes from. Tis true, would be nice to have more types... Never did get around to making Polarbear Hide Armor. Also never got the various salamander types of armor from Cereix, but he posted them as WIP, so we never will.

Not just lighter, more mobile. Maybe metal armors should slow your attack speed while leather keeps it the same.
