I like it.
I just have two comments.
Whats with the pink thing in the middle of two different kinds of wood?
And wheres the rust?

It'd also be nice if it used the NEW viewmodel (ie. the proper sleaving, like the current models/weapons/axes/rustedaxe_rview.mdl does) - so Orochi doesn't have to go back and fix it (whenever he got to it).

just say along w/ the axe being rusty, the handle is broken/cracked and is held together by a cheap leather sleeve...
oh and the axe needs to be rusty =P

That arm lacks SLEEEVES!
The first one, nice & shiny... looked like it'd do good for a non-rusty hand axe 
For a rusty axe though, or any other weapon... I think it should have chips along the *usually* smooth metal parts, or even holes where it rusted through...
You can kinda see, if you look carefully (not closely, carefully), the chips from the actual axe part (being the metal block).
