Just so you know that I wasn't blowing smoke out my ass ;)

For the record, the bolts are going to be loaded via a revolver-style chamber... You were suggesting 5 bolts, but I'd rather have 6, for the sake of my modeling sanity. Will this be an issue?

Re: [WIP]/[REQ] Models we need

Triple post, to inform you all of completion of the sxbow modeling. It weighs in at a beastly 1800 polys, so it's gonna have to have some stuff cut for the player model view(And I know where to cut from). But hell, it's mechanically feasible! :D

Wow, a revolver bow - there's a concept. ;)

Could probably save some poly's by making that spiky bit a texture.

Make sure it has a good-long reload time. Idear here seems to be to have an xbow that can fire 5 shots or so in quick succession before a painful reload.

Just what I was shooting for. Pun intended :p

Is there a way to charge a weapon and upon releasing the charge allow it to attack? That would be best, so that it's like you're heating the water tank...Or...

As for polys I can remove the bottom gear assembly, as it won't even show from the rview. That's for the worldview, and the worldview is about 1500 polys(Those bolts add 300 collectively), which is acceptable.

YOU'RE A CHARGIN YOUR LAZER.

@Glorfindel:
I will ambush you the moment I see you, to get you to animate this beast. :p

....That was just stupid....

No, bows charge when you hold attack and fire when released... No double clicking involved. Only thing that would need to be different would be to slow down how quickly they charge and how long it takes to start the charge.

Okay, that's what I'm going for...Water doesn't boil instantly now, does it?

Re: [WIP]/[REQ] Models we need

Eh, well, the way projectiles register, by default, the only thing the charge bar can do is determine the cone of fire of the weapon. XBows should always have the same COF, in my opinion, and without some tweaks to the code, I think that's all we can make it do.

The ancient script’s idea seems to be five shots with almost no delay followed by massive reload time (and yes, I see your model has six – that’s fine, we can swing that too). The charge bar doesn’t seem to factor into any of the xbow scripts – although, it kinda looks like whoever wrote the originals was trying to make it work more like a melee weapon, but I could never get it to really work proper under that methodology myself.

Re: [WIP]/[REQ] Models we need

Well, bows CURRENTLY have COF stuff for the bar, but I'm sure you could change that to power of the bow. If not, you could try to force the COF to be more of an ArcOfFire that aims down >_> I'm high right now.

Re: [WIP]/[REQ] Models we need

Thothie little question regarding the SXBOW in power terms, I know it will be weaker than the HXBOW, but, will it be as weak as the normal XBOW or a bit more powerful?

Re: [WIP]/[REQ] Models we need

the current shooting and rewinding animations (two of them, 12 in all for showing the bolts emptying) take about half a second, is that fast enough? Unfortunately winding that revolver shot isn't instantaneous :(

Re: [WIP]/[REQ] Models we need

Can you make a demo video, for the hell of it? :p

PS- Skinning is coming along nicely, I finished the tank and the gears/chamber/trigger insofar. Next; the stock.

Re: [WIP]/[REQ] Models we need

certainly, also i just remembered the shooting/rewinding can be sped up in the .qc file so im sure you guys could make it ridiculously fast if you wanted :p

SXBow video

I took some creative liberty because you didnt exactly describe how to work the thing :p Also ignore the bowstring moving up and down, it will stay still ingame

will probably also speed up the shoot via qc as theres too much downtime at the end of each fire

Gonna be hard as hell to line up hits with crosshairs held at an angle like that.

Agree, kinda looks lame in retrospect ><

@Glorfindel: Creative liberty for the win :D
Suggestion though; can you make the chamber split in half and fall off? Just a bit more logical than it falling off a solid bar of metal ;).

Another cool anim idea, can you lift the bow up to the left and show the tank, and then take the right hand and snap its fingers? Kinda like lighting a lighter? That would be sexy as all get out, and was part of my intention to show that the bow is indeed steam powered.

As for viewpoint, bigger. This thing is supposed to be huge , the hand makes it look a bit tiny :p. At least center it so its as if you're looking straight down the sight.

Great work! :D
