It's sadly not the sort of game you can open source without pretty much tossing it into the grave, though, worst case scenario, that is a possibility, albeit one up to the inheritors of the materials to decide. If it went open source and someone did pick up the project, they'd have to re-write a whole lotta leaked fundamentals from scratch, so the original source couldn't be used against it.

We have an excellent, as well as prolific, coder and an excellent scripter. A few tasks I've offloaded aren't getting done, true, but I think that's largely because those folks have given up their work seeing the light of day so long as I'm around - the catch-22 being, a replacement lead is not available, and I know of only one guy with enough multi-disciplinary depth and specialist knowledge of the systems involved who could even attempt it, but, well, he has a life.

Not that we couldn't use more help. We are lacking a dedicated modeler, but again, lacking more in dedication in general, as a result of the fact the one guy whose job it is to get it all out (ie. yours truly), isn't all there.

I, personally, appreciate and respect all that you do. The situation is not simple, nor ideal, but thank you for sticking with it so long.

It's much easier to be hyper-critical, than it is to actually think and be grateful. People seem to forget how to be appreciative of what they have.

Well, we'd hope to at least have a special Halloween map to make up for the lack of patch, but alas, we seem to be cursed as a Bed Bath & Beyond black-faced pumpkin.
Fires and thoughtless lawsuits lead to "scheduled" power outages all over California, which lead to Internet outages, even where there were no power outages, and 80MPH Santa Ana winds lead to "unscheduled" power outages. Then Valve decided to update Half-Life, without updating their repo, leaving the "changelog" to a third party to basically guess at (literally, the update news is straight from the PC Gamer article, not from the team), and then Valve decided to update Steam, stopping just short of making Big Picture Mode mandatory, which has broken Steam on every system I have, and then RKS got pulled out to Las Vegas, just as we were getting ready to put the new map up, despite all those hurdles.

...Thus, it's been all tricks, without a treat in sight.

To top it all off, it seems most of the official servers are going to be down until December.

The good news? Well, it looks like that asteroid missed us, but otherwise, meh.

Hopefully we will have a new map up sometime soon - somehow.

The size of that thing is small, between two and seven meters in diameter so the damage caused by the impact would be of very small scale, even it it was to break up into fragments and land in multiple places, i don't see it doing anything major to the public. I would rather save this kind of luck for larger ones that could wipe out an entire region and have a global impact to us all!

A-holes like this one are the ones that we should be worried about. Not that this one specifically represents any harm right now, but it could end up being a threat a few centuries down the line if the planned trajectories for the object end up being wrong or slightly changed due to gravitational pulls from larger objects or even unpredicted impacts with other objects that could change the trajectory towards the earth. I know there are some others closer to the earth than this one and also smaller in size but still large enough to be worrying if we take an impact head on in the upcoming years.

I-it was a joke, man. Though, given how things have been going, that rock might have pond-skipped across the planet, striking each developer's house and whatever data centers the RKS servers are currently hosted at, before coming to a rest on an orphanage somewhere.

Meh, might have a solution to my Steam woes, though it seems it means I'll no longer have access to the Steam store (at least, not through Steam). Can't seem to reach the home rig to test for some darn reason, at the moment, but if it works there, I'll post a link to the solution here, should anyone else here be unlucky enough to be among those with the issue.

I assume you found the steam://open/minigameslist method, then?

For others who want to use it:

1. Create a new shortcut (right click -> New -> Shortcut...)
2. In the URL/location field, put steam://open/minigameslist
3. Give it a name
4. Assign it an icon of your choice (as it will have no icon by default).

Yeah, though on this system, unlike one of the laptops, I also had to add the parameter "-no-browser", as apparently it's some change in the browser itself that is making Steam crash. (Which is weird - it's supposed to be a Chromium based browser, and I use Vivaldi as my go to on this machine, meh.)

Does prevent me from accessing some features, including the market, but I suppose I can just use the web site, should my friends try to sucker me into buying another game... Though the last few they were proposing weren't available on Steam, but via Epic Game's barebone would-be competitor, which is suddenly looking more appealing than it was a few days ago. But that launcher does have a marketplace that sticks you with 5+ inch icons with no list option, even if the game library itself is still a nice tidy list, so they may do something similarly stupid, in the future, and break it trying to make it look more like a smartphone ap, ignoring the fact that the screen it's on is probably nearly thirty inches across, and a few feet from your face.

Ever since Microsoft tried to make this stupid design philosophy mandatory with Windows 8, seems everyone is jumping on that bandwagon of form over function. Just makes simple things harder to do, and more likely to fsk up. Probably also sending a lot more personal information as well, as I'm reading reports of Steam's up bandwidth usage pulling 3MB/sec while idle now - another disheartening trend we're seeing in everything.

If, against all odds, that does work out, and the alpha test doesn't result in anything too traumatic, with luck, we'll have another turkey day patch.

Turkey patch 2k19? Maybe this time?

I'll be lucky to figure out how we're gonna get Gertenheld Crypt up by then. May actually be up and votable on *some* of the servers, though I'll have to go through this all over again, to upgrade the treasure. Kinda would like that version to be the one in the downloads section, so I've not done that yet.

Bleh, Steam is still having issues, even with that fix. Takes a good five minutes to start on this i9, and about 10 minutes on the faster of the two laptops I've installed it on, with another five to get it to launch MSC, each time. Steam is eating a whole core while idle too, and I canna figure why. Reinstalling. If that doesn't fix it, maybe I'll try sticking it in a virtual box.

Sadly, I don't think any of the other maps are rigged to play nice with the current release, requiring both new scripts and new game functions, plus some conceptual reworking in some cases.

Featuring Lots and Lots of Spooky Scary Skeletons!
drunk_skele-gif.6174

Dridje's Gertenheld Crypt is a high level map, full of undead, now officially available for play. This newer version has updated treasure, but hopefully either one will register as legitimate on FN.

You may acquire directly from servers that have it (/votemap Gertenheld_Crypt), or go yonder for Spooks.
(Sadly, turkey spooks - was supposed to be halloween spooks, but alas, discount Jack Skellington.)

A quick note: I accidentally fudged the ghoul spawn areas between my last successful playtest and the release of the map. As of now the map is broken so please wait patiently until it's fixed.

Double thanksgiving... tryptophan overdose... canna... move...

Okay, puttin the edit up. May take a bit to get out to the servers, but it's FN authenticated. (Bleh, bloody Xenforo won't let me change the file. So, unless I want the old version there causing confusion, I get to recreate the whole thing all over again, and redirect all the URL's - yaaay...)

is there any chance you guys could add an experience multiplier cvar? I'd love to play through all the content the mod has to offer, but I don't want to grind for tens of hours

Playing on FN has a bonus to exp gained, especially with other players present. As far as I know there's no plans to enable the same for non-FN play.

Assuming you mean the black hole, I've had a few people thinking it's a bug - I will have to find a better texture.

I also discovered a strange bug involving evil_race last night, but I know the reason and should be able to easily solve it.
