make it the same sort of style... just more open in my opinoin and turn like half of the mountains in to stuff like... maybe hills to give it more of the open look.

I will start the map up in the mountains as that seems to be where edna is located.

I will try my best to replace mountains with hills but this could end up with FPS issues.

I shall have a play about to see what i can find.

Map has started Screenies coming Sunday evening.

I can't ever seem to see your links, however the sketch you "fixed" before worked, can you do this "fix" to every image you upload from here onwards? So I can see too?

Source doesn't use wadfiles; Source uses material files which are packed in GCF archives.
These look like default Half-Life 2 nature/outdoor scenery materials to me.

Basic Texturing (HL2 material files) - I am here
Detailed Texturing (Custom built)

i think custom textures should be first thing... "no offence" and take out regular texture stage (only if your going to use custom textures)

Make sure you make it a surf map. I'm not playing it otherwise.

Ceriux: DocMombo is a spammer who constantly tries to derail topics. He's like... the spamming part of Kokris.

He rarely actually plays this game and never actually contributes so it's best to just ignore him. If everybody just ignores him, he can't destroy threads.

So back to the subject.
Toccs, in this picture you should add some variety to the foliage. I see the same model (the small dead bush thing) at least four times. The cliff walls also look a tad blocky. No offense, but you need brush up on your displacement mapping skills a bit.
And in this picture I don't see any foliage at all. I do see that you know how to use blending textures, so that's a plus.

As for the map layout, here's what I think:

- First of all, you should remake the original Thornlands map and you should keep it exactly the same.

- Then, using the open spots we have in the Thornlands map right now, add areas around it.

- Do keep the whole map noob-friendly, though. Rats, boars, a few bears, some bats, some undead, the occasional Orc raid, and the spider cave are good enough.

- If there's still lots of room left, merge Thornlands with Heras, but only do this if there's lots of room left; Heras could also use expansion.

A while ago I made this crappy picture in MSPaint illustrating what I mean with the "expanding on the original" idea:
