Well, now I have a new internet service (with a new modem). Problem is Steam never starts, not even erros screen or something.
Maybe it has something to do with my modem or my connection (not my router cus I used it with my old connection and worked.

Any idea?? :oldcry:

firewall, its just that simple check the modem, chances are it has a default firewall on blocking the ports needed.

Don't know if it's happening to you, but make sure your OS isn't blocking Steam's access to the internet.

It used to be several ISP's had issues with Steam because they used a non-conventional packet method that tripped their security, but I thought they stopped doing that. (I was actually unable to play Steam for the first six months after it left beta because of that, among other things.)

Got anyone with an annoying baby living near you?

How do I check the modem to disable the firewall?

depending on the creator of the modem will depend on how to access it.

it should be -> 192.168.0.1

type that into your browser it should bring up information about your modem.

if not some will be -> 192.168.1.1 or even 192.168.100.1

Once in just look for hints regarding a firewall, should be pretty straight forward after finding it.

I guess I also must be connected directly to my modem (no router)

Ok, I tried but only a status window popped up with nothing to modify.

May I check my router too?

is the modem and router connected together?

If you are typing 192.168.0.1 or the IP. the router is going to think your typing to the router. Unplug the router and plug into the modem and try that.
when you change get to the modem make sure you change numbers to something else. modem and router can have same IP.

huh it shouldn't matter if its going through a router or not...

what your looking for is you default gateway, that would be your modem.

so in a command prompt one would type "ipconfig -all" without quotes of course, and that will get you all the info you need including what your default gateway is.

also some helpful information like your service provider, just so you know there is a difference between ISP and the provider.

my service is from Qwest, my ISP is MSN.

the service is what supplied you with a modem.

Do you have to log into the modem to use the internet?

My POS ISP required to log in for every applications that gets on the internet.
That is just for the modem.

I meant when I got the modem. I had to give the rights for them to access to the internet by typing my user and password one time. but after that then I don't have to worry about that. Are you sure your ISP doesn't have any type of protections?

You think your ISP might blocked that?

I think your talking about a pppoe login. He wouldn't be on the internet at all if he had to do that, but didn't.

Thats the only thing I get when I browse to my modem (and other stuff that cant be modified)

I wonder if its possible to make a call to my internet provider and ask to open those ports I need

:? :? :? :? :?

It seems they dont have priorrities regarding the use of ports (means that those ports steam needs where already occupied by a user)
