Do you have an idea for fair giving the right person the item(s) you together won? besides rolling.

I suggest roll our levels.
i/e I'm level 39 and then I roll 39.

I think rolling is very fair. I think its fair for me to go up to anybody and, no matter how much effort they put forth getting something, roll them for it.

For example:

Me: Hello NAME, thats a fancy item you have.
Me: roll
*Shuriken rolls a 20*
Me: Now your item is mine, even if I didn't help, and only just now joined this server.
NAME: Why Shuriken thats unfair!
OldManWise: No! ROLLING IS ALWAYS FAIR!
PeopleInServer: OldManWise is right, rolling is fair because rolling is the only way we'll ever get high level items!
Me: Thank you for your item, have a nice day!

As you can see theres nothing wrong here and rolling is always the solution. Why reason things out when you can put it on chance?

*note* i've been up for about 30 hours and may be a tad cranky
EDIT: another note, i didn't actually read the OP i just decided to post my stance on rolling in this topic

Shuriken: Mikkel do you have North Maul
Me: Yes
Shuriken: Then you can't have anything before everyone else has something that matches.

Mikkel: Hooray! I won the Northmaul!
PeopleInServer: ...But we didn't roll for it.
Mikkel: I'm gonna call my Northmaul the GAY MAUL! lol
PeopleInServer: We didn't ROLL for it.
Mikkel: MY maul is so awesome lol
PeopleInServer: FUCKING ROLL FOR IT
Mikkel: We rolled for it...
PeopleInServer: No, we didn't.

See, even you try to defer from the rolling system.
Moving on...
I am finding now that rolling is becoming increasingly unfair in circumstances where the server is full, and maybe 3-4 of the people on said server are pulling most of the weight, and then someone that may not have been working as hard for an item, rolls, wins, and gets an item that they cannot even use.

My favorite part was where Squirrel bought the item off of Old_Helena, but get it rolled away

There's really got to be a better way than rolling. The problem is that level 11's are used to rolling for Hoarfrosts and Thornbows now, and demand it even if they don't deserve it. I was even on a map today where people were rolling for items before the map even changed.
Artifact chests are great in my opinion and I think that all rares should ALWAYS be in them. Why? Because the chest picks a senior player to receive the rare, and everyone knows what the rare item is.
The Hoarfrost was introduced way back in October, but, I hadn't even seen one until today, playing on Thothie's server. But, even with 8 players, it remained illusive and we all put in hours looking for it, dying, losing coin and mountains of XP. You get a few hours into a session on Lodagond, then suddenly you've got low level players teleporting into the arena to ninja loot the chest while all the hard working players are stunned by a GIANT HACKING REAPER's last stun attack before it dies... Well it's enough to try the nerves of even a patient man.
I think that, simply, all rares should be in artifact chests. I also think that the "dice" players roll should level up with the player, no joking. High levels should have handicaps when rolling, or get dice with higher numbers (maybe your HP, for example). There's no way that level 40+ players should have to roll on par with level 20 somethings. I'm not saying you have to be high level to get a rare item. I'm just saying that your chances of getting one should be proportional to the amount of damage and support you're able to give.

Who were in game when that happened and why did the people in-game not just tell the person who rolled to get lost?

Oh and my take on rolling.
The only people who should be allowed to roll are people who:
1) Helped beat (at the very least) the majority of the map and at least the final boss,
2) Can actually use the item they're rolling for,
3) Aren't ninja douchebags.

And rolling shouldn't happen before you reach the boss chamber, because rolling at the start of the map is particulary annoying when you're still joining (result: you'll miss the rolling).

This discussion keeps returning and unfortunately there's no real good way to determine who is entitled to get rares.
I do agree that all the rares should be in artifact chests all the time though; most high level players out there are normal people with a good sense of fair item distribution.

There should be a command like...

/reportdmgall

Jon - 6300 dmg
Shruiken - 10543 dmg
Jakio - 10 dmg
Tull - 7600 dmg
Steak - 10430 dmg

/feedamountall

Jon - 3 Deaths - 800 hp given to monsters.
Shuriken - 0 Deaths - 0 hp given to monsters.

/activetime

Jon - 1.2 hours
Shuriken - 1.2 hours
Silverman - .5 hours

....etc

From this you can see who deserved what most.

Yea only if you only if you can use it do you get to roll for the item, and if you have helped. Shuriken seems to of missed, most likely do his whining about never winning rolls and his oversized ego.

Damn you caught me!

Also, I don't think you should be entitled for an item if you don't AT A VERY MINIMUM at least help the f'ing spawn chances.

The problem here is lack of common sense.

Don't roll for items you worked hard to get. Let a reasonable person deal out the rares to people whom the entire group thinks deserves them. If we can convince people to just be mature and not always want things for themselves, then the entire community will improve, hell, we might even get more players by being nice!

It's still just a game, no matter how much extra damage your nova does over your GIB. Give it up man, you've already spent 100+ hours on this game. What's one more? Enjoy yourselves and allow other people to, also.

Maybe, I should just leave. Yeah, I can come back in another year or two, see the game improve, see who's still left, and try again.

I gave up on Artifact Chests because for some reason PEOPLE STARTED ROLLING FOR THEM - thus, completely destroying the purpose of the Artifact Chest PICKING SOMEONE.

Even that's not perfect. The Artifact Chest has no way of telling what you want, and all it really does is pick a random item from its inventory and give it to the strongest guy on the server, next strongest, etc.

Plus the Artifact Chests are horribly complicated.

The time on + damage done + times fed monsters = even more horribly complicated. ...and people will, no doubt, still roll.

PS. ...and that was part of my motivation for making the old_helena guys charge you - that you'd refuse to roll for something you PAID FOR - but jeeze, that failed too. Remind me to carry a d20 around with me, so I can roll the owner of the next good-looking Lexus I see.
