My MS:C Is horribly Out of Sync. (Non-ping related)

I've not played on the fuzznet servers for a very long time now. Untill recently I've really wanted to start playing again and make a new character seeing as I wrongly leveled my last one due to the parry leveling glitch.

I know I've probably not made the best impression on the forums in the past. I do appologise for that and I thank those that were sympathetic towards me. If anything, I'm a totally different person now as opposed to who I was all those years ago.

BACK ON TOPIC. I'm having some issues with my MS:C after I recently started playing, I have never had this problem before and it seems to persist on any and all servers.

I recently started a new character in slot 2. Started playing on one of the NL Amsterdam servers. After about 5 minutes of being on the server I killed a few rats and boars untill I noticed everything becoming very out of sync. Although my ping remained below 40 the time that I was there.

The combat animations were delayed, the menu's and talking to NPC's would take forever to actually show once I prompted the NPC. Even the combat text was delayed. The only thing that wasn't delayed was my movement and animations besides the combat ones. And also the "You begin to-" and You stopped -" When I started Jogging was not delayed either. Even accessing my inventory, storing, picking up and using items.

I have tried a fresh install but the problem persisted. So this is obviously something to do with me or my account. If possible would anyone be able to look into it for me? Or have any ideas on how I could fix this?

Ya know, I can't remember for the life of me what causes this... It maybe one of those things where you have to type kill in console or it saves to your character, or it maybe a matter of using the wrong base installer.

I'd double check that you have the right full installer from the front page. Though, of course, try the kill in console thing first.

If that doesn't do the trick, maybe someone can remind me what's up with this, if someone else recalls.

PS. Just so ya know, while your artificially inflated level may have dropped with the parry change, the new parry is a lot more effective than the old one, so your actual power level shouldn't have changed at all.

I play this game locally with a friend (still use version DEC2010a). Don't know if it helps but it is only the client that is affected. Changing the map usually did the trick but it's a quite annyoing solution when the boss is half killed. Thanks for the kill hint - will try it next time.

Sounds similiar to those old overflow issues i used to have, opening menus, bringing out weapons and the likes would take forever and overflow me sometimes, except it's not with these...

You should try:
-playing with a different character to see if it happens again;
-turning off bloom by pressing B while ingame (this does cause weird issues to some people out there, could be possible i guess);
-try different maps, see if it still persists;
-checking for corrupted items (drop 1 item at a time, if they look weird when dropped, its corrupted);
-make sure you don't have containers inside containers (heavy backpack inside another one, etc);
-host your own non FN server and see if it happens or not.

I'm not really sure if any of this will actually help, but it does seem some sort of overflow issue to me as i got similiar stuff in the past.

Tell us if any of this actually helped when you try. :wink:

It's been so long since I've seen this problem, I'm not sure, but that maybe it - invalid character in the name space. Do need a better filter on our text entries.

If this maybe the case, head down to Sembelbin (Master Priest at Edana). He can change your name. Might fix it. Think it only costs 100gp, the first time.

Kill does not solve the problem and map changing also only temporarily. I've thrown everything away - nothing.

I should mention that my friend and me share the character, i.e. after playing we copy the file of the player who made the most progress and rename it with the respective steam ID. Don't know if that could be part of the problem.

If you two have the same character name you'll have issues, so rename your character at Sembelbin.

I used to have this trouble long ago but wont happen anymore. there was no character with my same name.

Maybe it something that overflows something in the console or somewhere else.

Hrmm...

Got a look at his character, and other than the fact that it was buck-naked - didn't see anything odd about it. Seems to be named just "raven". I think if there is a preceding space or odd character in there, it wouldn't show in the display, but the debug returns the same string, so... It didn't start to demonstrate any odd behavior either, but I didn't have time to test it for very long.

Granted, if he didn't strip it ahead of time, an invalid item maybe why it comes up buck-naked.

I gotta head out for a bit, so maybe I'll just leave my MSC running with his character on Edana, and see if anything "odd" happens by the time I get back.

edit: (Two hours later) Nope... Nadda... Granted, he was just staring at rats for two hours, so it's not conclusive... On a side note, testing Phobia with a naked 300hp character is not a good idea.

As I mentioned above, the problem occurs only to the client. Could you try it with another developer? I also uploaded the character with items (in case that helps.) Maybe he had a corrupted item.

How to reproduce the bug:
The server makes two copies of the character file named with the respective steam ID's of my friend and me.
He starts Hamachi and the server (with standard settings) and the other player connects.
The problem should occur to the client after about 2 to 5 minutes. If hitting enemies, the damage messages show up later and later. Running and looking works fine.
With the not naked character we also had the problem that after a minute the ping was at 1200.

That looks clean there... Granted, that's not a 100% effective way of detecting a corrupted item, but it does catch a lot of em. If your naked character is pulling this too, yer kinda fubar though.

I notice, however, that 1) you have tickets, and 2) you have not used your Galat Storage Chest. This leads me to believe that maybe you do not have the latest patch? Tickets being kind of a waste of space and all, when you have access to that.

The fact that this is a bug I've not seen in ages also makes me wonder if we fixed this, and I forgot, and you haven't patched via the betapack.

Other things:
• Two duplicate characters with the same name can cause issues - though I'm not sure how they'd cause this one.
• Moving characters from one slot to another can cause issues.
• If the character was created on LAN, and switched to Steam ID, it causes issues (though actually worse ones than this).
• Hamachi... F*cking Hamachi...

If it were an [FN] character, I could just roll it back to before this problem started, but alas...
