My axe model (old Compile problem topic)

Whenever i try to compile a qc file ms3d freezes and says "error reading xxx.bmp"

Any idea whats happening?

You likely haven't put the textures in the proper place. Check the $cdtexture path and make sure it points to a directory that contains all of the textures you have used.

sounds like the bmp file is in the wrong spot, but thats just from my experience with hammer errors :roll:


edit: arrr, orochi beat me by seconds...

Nope, the path is okay, it stil says "unable to read ...\brushsteel.bmp" or something like that :oldcry:

Is the error "Unable to find brushsteel.bmp for bbox" or something close to that?

Are you sure the texture it reads is in the right place?

yes, the only strange thing is that it name the image "/"brushsteel.BMP

uhhhhh...FER, if you want me to tell you an easy fix i can :roll:


go to C:\Documents and Settings\Fernando Audisio\Escritorio\2125\axe\

and find the brushsteel.bmp....now rename it to "/brushsteel.bmp" :roll:


(silly workaround similar to ones used in hammer)

load up photoshop go to image scroll down to mode, then go to indexed color then a window will pop up change the settings around till u get something u like with the color limit of 256. then save it . it will automatically save as 8 bit.
if you cant figure it out send me your bmp('s) and ill make them that way and higher quality so they dont look all distorted.

the problem when renaming is that is wont let me used characters like "/"

well...thats a bit of a problem then, isn't it...

theres something in a config file thats mesesd up, looking for a file named "/brushsteel.bmp" and i doubt doing what ceriux said will fix that...although there could be two problems - one solution doesn't fix both

Now i only need to incorporate the model to the animation of a decompiled model (great axe).

Ya know setting up sequence file. Any tips?

ehh i dont know how to do that i tryed and screwed up horribly heh... which is why i dont know how to compile my Fang Tooth Dagger... i dont know what goes where ect.... smd's and such is easy though...

EDIT: how do i attach the skelleton to the model (by attaching i dont mean "assign") so the animation matchs perfectly?

well, try decompiling the msc models with the player arms and such for your weapon type and see what u can do when u import the reference smd...

not stuck anymore, and completed all my model are 1600 polys too much?
