This is my list of mmorpgs from crappiest to addictive
Crappiest
http://www.mechquest.com/- Its very gay with turn based and when you buy parts and try to sell them its divided by 100 so if you buy a 2000 weapon it sells for 200 it also makes you press this button and roll to get a skill lvl up and most of the things are for members only also no point of lvling you get nothing
http://www.runescape.com- Omg so gay and retarded i can't even explain it
http://www.battleon.com- Same as mechquest/dragonfable
http://www.dragonfable.com- Same as mechquest/battleon

http://www.maplestory.com- Crappy Graphics its 2d and takes forever to lvl and choose a class
http://www.godsoftime.com- Umm how would i put this... uhh ok so you lvl up pretty fast fighting system is reatarded and graphics r gay and its a web browsing game also the movement system is also gay and retarted the cursor has arrows pointed at a certain direction when you aim and you take a step in that direction and also they have overpriced micro payments 1 month 4.00 3 months 12.00 6 months 23.00 (lol some redundancy there)
Addictive

http://www.anarchy-online.com/- The thing I like about anarchy online is the stat development. There is about some menus of skills (80 skills in total) that you can improve using points gained every level. There are spells (AKA Nano programs) that boost specifics in these menus and Everything good in the game requires you to have a certain number of something to use it.
The addictiveness comes from tinkering and twinking the hell out of your character to use more powerful guns, nano programs, melee weapons, armor, and vehicles. Hell at about around level 50 (Which came after 1-2 weeks of playing) I was running around in what could be described as Storm trooper armor while wielding an Organic Energy Scythe thing and riding in a tiny rocket that boosted my run speed 2 fold.
Sure it boils down to doing missions 50 percent of the time (Which can net you tokens to put in a board which gives you bonus stat increases, and even experience modifiers with enough tokens, and have items for rewards that not found anywhere else). The other 50 percent of the time you are fighting through dungeons with groups of other people. It is basically Missions til level X, Dungeon/Missions til level X, Repeat.
You also have the option to start paying a monthly fee to play as well. By doing so you are given access to new worlds and Perks (Which include stat boosts and special skills). But the best thing is you can go from level 1 to level 200 (Yes that is the level cap) Without paying a freaking dime. If you want to get from level 200 to 220 then you will have to pay. But I digress.
Long story short If you really want to play a Free MMO Play AO. They keep saying "It's only free tell 200X" But They originally made it from 2004 to 2005 for free. The people keep extending the deal because it keeps netting them new accounts (lol copyed from fehi's post)
Guild Wars- Well i dont wanna put the site because you pretty much cant download it you gotta buy it for a pretty high price but its worth it lots of quest a good amount of classes and lvling is easy
http://lastchaos.aeriagames.com/download- Probably one of the best MMORPGS ive ever played. It has plenty of classes to choose from, lots of quest, pets you can train and mount like dragons and horses, and also micro payments
