Hi, I am fairly new to this forum ,and game which I've only played for a few weeks ,but I'd like to give some suggestions.

Alignment- A single digit variable going from -9 to 9 this will affect how npcs respond to you if scripted as such.

Maps- How about a non linear fairly huge battlefield map with capturable control points? Each teams would have 3 capture points that they started with. Each time someone won the map the map would restart ,and give each play like .1 alignment up or down whether they fought for with say Maldora or the Khaz or with soldiers of Deralia or dwarves of Urdual. Maybe even a point system stored on FN where the side with the most points would affect a future plot event. Like say there was a battlefield map where it was the outskirts of edana ,and as someone finished it would give a point to each side. This would eventually change the plot line so say the orcs won versus dwarves that came to help edana. This could have it so that maybe next patch Edana was modified to have a cave where orcs resided ,and the sky was dark until the map got enough points where there would be another map released ,and the last barred from use on FN. This would give the players a feel of both choice ,and having an effect on the gameworld.

Rank- As you did things to gain favor with citizens ,and gaurds or rulers in cities you would gain rank. The maximum would be 100 rank ,and that number divided by 5 would allow you to command 20 troops this would require long hours of devotion though. The average rank would probably stay around <40 ,and players over 40 would become officers being able to drop items which put sprites in the sky as an objective. So you could tell the players to take specific control points like say a ridge to prevent the enemy archers from pwning you. After there were no enemies around a player thats not an officer could pick these up ,and return them to get small amounts of extra rank. After rank 70 you can give instruction to npcs to attack a control point from chat menus instead of the npcs doing this random.

The question is, why would we need all that?

Will you be making all of this?

Basicly, it can't be done with this game engine. Two guys with rank 100 would crash the server with their 40 soldiers/guards.

Way too much work for this mod but it works out for other games. Try Mount & Blade. Dynamic RPG where you control a small army of soldiers. Not a HL1 mod though.

The capturing controlpoints is not really MSC style :/ It sounds more of a BF2 kinda thing. The whole point of MSC is to free raom and lvl, not cap places and get points. These are cool ideas, but MSC isnt that kinda game. Go make a mod liek dat and ill come play it XD

Not control points. Maybe more like encampments where each had npcs in it. Noteworthy I would think the cap on npcs on one side minus the bosses would be 40-50 max. There would have to be some way to have encapments spawn npcs of the correct side which is why I suggested control points which is kind of silly. It wouldn't be much more work besides a script for npcs following you which is already used. It would also require a table/metatable/whatever they call it here for how many troops a player had ,and rank ,and info such as. A few map sents ,and scripted spawns. I have done something similar to this in LUA (the scripting language used for garrys mod) only on a much higher scale since source can handle quite a bit.

Are you serious? There is infact no depth in that system, because all it would do is crash the server, make the game unplayable due to the massive amounts of NPC's blocking, making the game completely frustrating.

But thanks for telling the developers how to NOT make the game.

Please. Continue to flame a person who made a suggestion. Not every person knows the limitations of the gold source engine or cares to think about all the end cases.

You know, the alignment system is a good idea, if it could be tied to quests.

But MS:C's gameworld wasn't designed for players of multiple alignments, and thus isn't likely a useful addition.

As for a "cap-based" map, we have had other mission type maps (Helena, for example), but this one seems quite a ways from the traditional MS:C game, and would more likely fit well into a different mod.

I like the map idea, but storing points on FN might be going too far.
Would this be a long map or are we talking more DOD capture style?

That's not the problem in this case. It's the suggestion itself that's just completely different from the original gameplay. It's like taking MS:C and suggesting they drop dice rolls and make it realistic by making Hx Bows one hit kill.

Pfeh, the arrows would get halfway to Red Cell and be like "aww f*** this" and go in another direction.

Is Red Cell turning into MS:C's Chuck Norris?

While in Red Cell's presence, you are only conscious because he wills you to be so.

When you're NOT in Red Cell's presence, you only exist because he wills it so. Life outside of Red Cell's gaze is hell, unless he wills it otherwise.

great ideas, and would be fun if not for the limitations of MS:C and the way MS:C is set up. MS:C was never meant for PVP although it is built in, but not on that mass scale. The game would also be extremely laggy or would just crash due to the amount of entities.

Something similar came to mind : Age of Chivalry. I'm fairly certain they have maps like this.
