I'll increase his XP based on the difficulty of his chamber, escort, and the effort required to get to him, adjusting for the treasure, of course, which will likewise be affected.

One bugger up I've noticed is that none of these guys drop gold ^_^... Remind me to put a sh*tload of gold in the treasure chest - I guess it'll save some edicts that way in anycase... Not that characters of this caliber care about gold right now, but they might after an economy reset and after they see some of the items on sale at Shad Palace and Sorcburg.

Okie dokie Thothie ^_^ Getting to this guy will be painful  Kinda easy in the beginning to fuck hard at the end + all these jumping puzzles and death traps and other stuff! Sounds good to me, guess we can discuss this further later on. :p

Sorry Thothie, I made another mistake.

Before a natural disaster destroyed this post, IIRC, it contained... Something regarding XP and treasure at the end of the map being based on the difficulty, and not to make any demands regarding said, beyond my offer to hold the map, if desired, until a unique item can be made for it (which may mean dragging it to the next patch after)...

other "demands" for XP/treasure beyond that - or I'll drop you like a hot potato. ;)
I don't have demands because I want this map to be released! 8) We can always discuss it though and come to an agreement right? :)

Hopefully I can get a unique item for the map - but there's already so many new maps up requiring unique items, it may be difficult to pull - and I think Shad Palace deserves at least two. If you want to hold the release of your map until there's a unique item available, should there not be one ready in time for this patch, I'll do that

Well I have no clue when that patch will come out and when the one after that will come out. :oldshock: Is there a list of unique items I can see?

I wrote music for your map, as you requested. I've been working non stop at it since you asked me earlier today and I am not completely happy with the result. I'm not sure it fits and I think the orchestration needs a bit of a face-lift. I'm going to post it here and ask your opinion on it, if you think it works as music for your map (I have my doubts about this), and what, if anything, you would like to see changed.

If this gets some form of approval I'll write a second part to it and then repeat it, most likely forcing it to loop. The loop, however, will likely not include the four measure introduction where there is nothing but a bell and percussion. Hopefully I will be able to get a more adventurous sound in the second section.

http://www.4shared.com/file/131831601/8 ... music.html

Thank you again for allowing me to collaborate with you.

Edit: There appears to be a problem with the file I uploaded.

Double Edit: I fixed it, I believe. You may actually have to download this file, unfortunately. It's large due to it being a .wav and I can't get it to play on the website.

Now, a question for thothie. Can MS:C use .flac files for its music? I can convert this to an mp3 but often times that really hurts the quality of the music. Converting it to a .flac file would be ideal. Oh yeah, and those mummies look freaking AWESOME! I can't wait to play this.

No, it's MP3 or MIDI only. If you convert it *properly* it should have little to no affect on the music. The game's sound engine should have more impact on the music than the conversion. One drawback is that I don't think the game can handle anything bitrates higher than 256Kps though, nor can the engine do sample rates higher than 44.1Khz.

Just be sure to use a high bitrate, and not to use some half-arsed LAME codec, and it'll be fine.

PS. Also strip any ID2/ID3 tags from the MP3, as the game tends to choke on MP3's that have them. And lastly - no VBR.

I'm always open to ideas, just not demands. I wouldn't feel the need to mention this, but someone, who shall not be named, tried to pull something just a few days ago... (Not Rickler, mind you, he's been golden.)

I'm *hoping* the next patch will come out much faster than this one, as we'll have the code sources synced up and we're re-arranging some deck chairs. There'll no doubt be some stuff to clean up in any case.

There's no list of *completed* items that aren't already dedicated to other maps. Shad_Palace came in first, so I have to give it the first two we manage to pull. If our scripters have a sudden attack of productivity, I'll get you a list of any excess items we have after that, and maybe you can select which you'd prefer from there. Items, however, are very temperamental, difficult to make, and additionally, require both lag and balance testing, so they tend to take longer than anything else.

Even if no unique items are available at the time of its release, I'll be sure it has enough random high-end items to make it appropriate for its difficulty, and maybe raise the XP of some near-end-the-map beasts to compensate as an alternate motivator until said unique item(s) can be added. (And just deal with the usual consequences later.)

What's that about?? :| :oldshock:

...

I think Dridje accidentally edited another post. ^_^

PS. I'll have a new alpha package for you within the next few hours - I'm being kidnapped just now, but expect to be back before sunrise.

The map is done!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Finally after much work, I have finished! I'm happy to say that I like what I have so far, so starting tommorow, hopefully, I can start MAP TESTING! :D That's right map testing. If you were one of the people who asked to test you might get the chance too. Also this will help me figure out if there are any exploits to fix, monsters that need toughening and all that other jazz!

Besides that, special thanks goes out to!:
Dridje!
Thothie!
Joe!
J-M!
FER!
Sabre!
You guys are awesome 8)

Well I just tested the map with Silent, Joe, Magical Bong and Dridje. I now see I have many errors that I need to fix. I'll make sure to carefully fix them all, then have the final testing done. Thanks to Silent for hosting and the others for testing.
Don't know what you guys though of it but it sucked.

Perhaps one should describe the difficulties you encountered so that others may better be able to assit you with advice. (Also, I hope you are doing some single player testing before subjecting your test crew to the map.)

Did the scripts work out okay at least?

Also: "The map is done!" = Curse of the Damned. Especially when placed in oversized font. The only more effective curse known to the mapping world is to suffix your map name or archive with "_final". :)

Yes the scripts work Thothie :D I've fixed most of the problems but some of the spawns trigger before they are supposed to and I'm having trouble with a certain door that wont break >_>
But I sent it to Dridje to take a look at, then when he's done with his mapping magics, we can have the mapping tests. Also the boss is awesome :p

P.S. We should discuss XP and loot soon

I'll get some more pics in sometime soon. We'll be working on this for a while actually to make this the best it could be. If you guys see Dridje thank him for making it so much better.

Clearly a wizard did it.

The music is finished! There might be a small edit here or there before the map is released but this is pretty much what you will be hearing when you play. Anyone is welcome to criticize this composition, especially musicians. I don't know if I will be able to meet your criticisms but I will give it a shot before the map is released.

Anyhow, I've rambled enough. Here it is.

http://www.4shared.com/file/133750897/e ... r_mp3.html

It doesn't loop in this link because that's fairly pointless. It was structured to loop, though, and it will loop in game.

Now, with that out of the way, I must say aznboi, this map is looking pretty sweet. I can't wait to die repeatedly in this map. It should be really fun.

Now, I've just got to complete the boss music in time for the release, which in all honesty I am not sure I can do. I'll try, though.

Map is very close to finishing, I'm just estimating a finish date of September 30th. Also Thothie, How do I get the music Oyster made into the map? :oldshock: No idea how to.

MS:C Note: msarea_music can now play custom mp3s
brush entity: msarea_music
Properties: special:
"musicname.mp3" "minutes:seconds"
Example, from thornlands:
CODE: SELECT ALL
{
"model" "*183" //this cannot be seen from within hammer, it references the brush
"msthornlands_exterior.mp3" "3:00"
"classname" "msarea_music"
}

By default, the mp3 to be played is assumed to be in the msc/music folder – but you can build paths to other folders. Currently only the minutes property is used, so be sure to place at least 1 more minute than your song actually is intended to loop. The new music will only begin to play on players who have touched the entity.
