I do this whenever I get random noob gear and see one training on thorny....
I stand idle and say Welcome, %name.. Welcome to your destiny. You are the chosen one. here take this -

I then hook that noob up with like cobra vest and some pots. maybe a couple weaponns, I don't want to over stuff him.

%name, you are the chosen one. Be wise with your decisions, be great with all weapons.

then i bind i key to "say ninja vanish; disconnect"

after doing this there is a better chance he/she will become a regular in this game.

yous guys shoulds do it too, and post the way you do it.

its fun for the kids, you kknow.

cobra and fire vest arent really high level items. they just look cool while wearing
and the only pots i give are stuff like pot of protection and vampy.. maybe bottle of spiders.

not like im passing out orion bows or stuff they can't use..

but yea i understand im messing up thier gameplay by hookin them up.. but when they hell am i ever going to use fire or cobra skin'd gear?

I won't pass out any weapons.
nor fire helms.. altho they are everywhere, it isn't really fair to see a lvl 9 guy with one.
soo
the pots and cobra and fire ok?
maybe gladiator?

the average player seems to get hella bored slaying rats with rusty items fast. if u give them a reason to play, like giving a vest and saying something like "you are the chosen one" i bet they will become a regular.
this game needs more players now that there are more servers. ty to rsk.

Until they can get one themselves, they shouldn't be given them. If you want to help out, heal them and help protect them until they get strong enough on their own. Hell, create your own noob and train with them. I start new characters all the time. What would keep them playing more than equipping them would be to be a companion (And not the Firefly kind).

It won't be so funny when he tries to get this 'mysterious ninja' to show up for somebody else.
Actually it might, imagine if the poor guy was waiting around for hours for those items. :oldlol:

(Scribbles new name onto twinker list. ;) )

The vast majority of abandoned characters seem to be characters that got nearly all the items available in the game at a very low level. Once a low to mid level character has everything they need, they tend to quit playing.

Additionally, twinked players tend to level much faster, thus reach the level wall faster, and those few that do stay after acquiring every item and nearing the level wall, very often tend to spend their time twinking players themselves. Suffice to say, this creates a vicious and self perpetuating cycle.

So in the words of Counselor Mackey , "Twinking is bad, mmmmkay?"

like lvl 40 everything?
ok I won't hook up noobs anymore.

I try to remain friendly ingame. never pking so i have the "friendly" tittle
i don't rush to loot and try to be fair.
always friendly to noobs..

but this seems to get me hated more than anything.

If you want to be friendly to noobs, do what MiB said heal them, protect them, start a new character to play with them, help them figure out how the game works, and help them level up. After they reach the level where they should be able to do the map, help them run the map for that item.

Although I've been known to hook some noobs up with some rusty starter weapons and a sheath to save them from farming boarskins... But I wouldn't be giving them anything else until they're able to run that map. ;)

There's a huge difference between twinking and being friendly. Nobody's gonna sh*t on you for being friendly to noobs, though they will for dumping items that they can't even use nor run the map for yet on them.

Earning some awesome weapon or armor is a lot more rewarding.

For example: I look at my Torkalath blade and am reminded of the late nights farming highlands. Or my greater ice blade and the big stupid stunlock monster in the ms_snow caves. Unbreakable Golden axe, farming strong pots and mana pots from sky castle when those pots used to sell for massive bank. Or my personal "favorite" the Raven mace, flying horrors blinding and making you screw up on the seals. Skulls breathing fire on you while kiting the boss. Getting punted into the lava. Then a Granite maul drops...

I have a couple items I didn't really earn. Fire tomahawk (had to download the map, by the time I got in they were nearly done) Wolf pet, got dragged along and have no idea how to earn one myself. Empty feeling in comparison to using a weapon you earned yourself.

Cobra and Fire Vests are sorta higher lvl from the maps they spawn at (also 45% protection with high resistances), and thothie is right the low lvls do level faster with that stuff because they die less and survive longer etc. I can see handing stuff out if they are the level to obtain it themselves but to me not when they are adventurer. /end rant 8)

The "level wall" is the point at which current monsters/bosses are no longer good enough exp to let you level further. It also may be the point at which no maps pose a challenge. Either way, it's the point at which the game pretty much becomes pointless, where your only thing to do is wait for a harder map or twink noobs.

There's nothing like saving up gold to buy your first platemail to replace your torn leather vest. Everytimes I see a newb with barely 150hp wearing a fire helm and acid plate/aura of fire, I feel like punching someone in the face. Back then when I was playing old MS, I didn't get to play online and had to grind to get my stuff and that felt awesome. That may be one of the main reasons why I'm still playing after all these years.
Giving free stuff just like that to random newcomers doesn't do anything but make them happy and thankful for 5 minutes, then bored like hell. In my opinion, the part that feels good about getting stuff in a game is to feel progress, to earn it step by step. Becoming overpowered for your current level knowing there's nothing much left to do but grinding kills the fun.

*Slightly offtopic* There would be much less twinking and way more fun if every items would spawn in one or two maps. For example, you need a fire helm? Farm x map instead of finding one in nearly every chests you find. Keep in mind that even though some player already has x item and spawns one in a chest, 90% of time retarded fucks feel an urge to drop every single item they don't want on the ground instead of leaving them where they are. (Incredibly annoying)
I think it would be better and lower twinking rate if instead of putting fire helm/granite mace/serpent gauntlets etc spawn in individualised chests, why not replace them with some useful random potions? Expendables are always nice to use and are interesting to low level players too. They should get more buff pots. (Not by grabbing the high levels leftovers)

Also, that would give back some value to the items made worthless by individualised chests as well. I'd be happy to see a newb say he's looking for help getting serpent gauntlets instead of grabbing a pair by the time high levels say "You should start at Edana"

tl;dr : Twinking sucks

Eh?
Also giving newbs tons of cool stuff I've found with certain newbs makes them want to hoard good items cause they have a few good items already (ex. aura of fire, kharaz fire blade, etc.)

EDIT: FINAL END RANT!!!!11!!! lol

yes, im sick of seeing serpant gaunts and fire helms. more random pots is a very good idea.

but i am one of those ppl that grab everything outa my arti chest and throw on ground for ppl who might need. :/
leaving them in the chest is a waste.
taking them out and sharing is a nicer way to play i think.

It's not the player's right to have YOUR items, that's the point of the individualized artifact chests. Those items are yours alone, and every other player will have earned their own items.

Unless of course they just joined after the boss died to pick up stuff people like you toss on the floor.
