I have a pretty cool idea of a skeleton model in source and I think it could be done, but would require great amount of modeling skills (Gaz).

I want the skeleton to look like an Imp from Doom3, as in, its crouched with its arms out like it will grab you at any moment.

monster_imp.jpg

except its only made up of bones, and all its bones are INDIVIDUAL. And also to have some of the bones move or rotate during their other animations. I.E. Have some "chips" or actual whole bones move while walking.

Also, in their chest where the heart would be, is a cool looking ball of fire (depending on what element they are, that is the color of the fire).

When they die, the physics take over and all the bones fall to the floor. If they have multiple lives, the fire will still burn and stay in the same position. After a while, the bones will float back to their usual positions and "reanimate."

When it dies for the last time, the bones will fall, the fire ball will explode (or burn out) and the bones will evaporate.

This is supposed to be a really mean looking skeleton. Its a shame I can't draw to save my life. So hopefully I explained it correctly. What do you think?

I like it, kinda like the skeletons in Oblivion when they die :D

Also, an idea when more skeletons spawn, they dig out of the ground, fall from ceilings or crawl threw walls rather then just spawn in midair.

Yea that would be crazy. But if someone with some skill could draw this out for me, or try to model it off of my description (Gaz), that would be great.

I think most people just saw the word "Skeleton model" and the picture of the imp...

That would be awesome, and quite doable, I think. Not so sure with physics, though. The bones would have to be pulled back into position through gravitation, sort of like objects flying to the tip of the gravity gun in Half-Life 2, but each bone with its own position.

Or perhaps you could just have static animations for all of it?

Yes, that's what I implied, but then this part of his idea wouldn't work:

When they die, the physics take over and all the bones fall to the floor. If they have multiple lives, the fire will still burn and stay in the same position. After a while, the bones will float back to their usual positions and "reanimate."

I wouldn't want to see the model if it can't be done like that.

I think it's very much doable, as each part would have it's own position on the skeleton. An X/Y/Z position on the model, but I gather it'd require a lot of work to do.

What I'd love to see, is on the ordinary skeletons (1 life, no heart) could have their bones smashed off from a blow.

Think if you smash a sword on it's arm, it flies off, and it'd walk around with one arm.

That would be awesome. But the heart idea is key for my skeletons, it definitly shows if the thing is alive or dead. And the heart is set to explode doing some dmg after death, or maybe even implode.

Or maybe, when the skeleton dies, as a last defense, its bones explode outwards to damage you (if only a little).. Secondly, the bone ends can be unique-magnetized i believe to eachother and then, once in place and they form the right image, the seperate bone parts could be replaced by an identical sprite which begins to move.

Detail:
Bones fall to the ground, skeleton begins reforming immediately.
Bones are magnetized to eachother uniquely, so that each bone has a marker to attach to that is 'special.'
Then, because the bones should form back into one piece the exact same way, to save on entities or what-have-you, they could be replaced by another skeleton which will stand up and attack.

Way #2:
Create an entity that has multiple particles that can act individually "if" HP = #. And then use the magnetization or some method to reform them. And then "if" HP = zero, the skele explodes or falls apart for the last time.

Another idea is that skeles can reform incorrectly. I mean, is something that unintelligent going to be capable of reconstructing its own complex body accurately? Like, say, if a group of skeles are knocked down all at once; would they be able to tell eachother parts different (or for that matter, would they not even be able to tell the difference from eachother and absorb one-another and become a super-skeleton? Think on that.

Awesome necro post.

Doubt that any of this is going to be made no matter how cool/dumb the idea is.

Actually...A while back I toyed with making a bear skeleton...
With individual bones.

It's at like 8k polies, and has no head.

Another idea; human aren't the only animal with bones.

As Sabre just said, even a bear would work. How about some spider organ juice (kind of like a slime)? How about bones of things of all sorts? :D
