By popular demand, I got my dedicated server up and running! However I am a total n00b at being an admin, so any lil feedback you might have can be posted here. NOTE: Do not report abusive players here, PM only! This is only for bug reports regarding my server only.

OFFICIAL RULES AND REGULATIONS:
1. Respect your fellow players. I will not tolerate anyone whining to me about item calling, name calling, and drama. Keep your drama out of my server. I will only accept complaints regarding people not following the "Rules of roll," as I see that the roll system is the only fair system for item distribution. Failure to keep your sh!t out of my server will result in a one week ban.

2. My server is to be considered an official server of the Blades of Urdual. As such, any BoU guild members do have some administrative privileges. I am currently considering granting the same privileges to some of our more experienced, mature alliance members (RiP and tPoD). When that time comes, I shall inform you so.

3. All reports of cheating and/or exploiting will only be accepted via PM. Do not post them on this thread, as I do not consider them guilty until I am convinced. All reports must include an approximate time, the names of people present, the STEAMID of the accused, and your STEAMID, not to mention a screenshot if applicable. Do not even try to edit your screenshots, with the exception of pointing out what you are reporting to me (eg circling the issue). If I consider the screenshot edited, you had better fess up if I catch you, or you will get a permanent ban.

4. Do not give me any complaints about someone hacking your character and using your name to speak; I dunno how they do it, but I don't really care because it does not at this time cause any serious issues.

5. Only I (Sabre) have the right to ban you. No other admin will receive that right.

6. I reserve the right, if you are convicted of an exploit on my server, to give your STEAMID to Blasto. If you attempt to frame someone as well, I also will submit your STEAMID to Blasto. In addition, in reporting someone I will not accept any reports without YOUR STEAMID included, for collateral.

7. If there are any questions I will be happy to answer them.

CRIME AND PUNISHMENT LIST:
If you are convicted of one of the following, you will receive the punishment listed next to it. If you commit two crimes, you are permanently banned, unless your name is cleared.
"Ninjaing" of items- two week ban
Using an exploit or bug- One month ban, and your STEAMID is given to Blasto.
Recruiting for your guild on my server- One week ban
Bringing 'unsanctioned' drama onto my server- Kick, and maybe a one week ban, depending.
Attempting to frame someone for an above crime- Permanent ban, no exception.

And now, the fun:

By all means ^^. Server is functional right now, with the help of Humming Bird. Enjoy!

Bump, for the rules; I also took out some of the ingame messages and consolidated the rulez on this thread.

The talking-for-someone-else thing isn't a hack, doesn't cause any harm, and is just being used for fun. No worries about it ;-)

I am aware of that, which is why I made that rule; I know it isn't hacking, but the more naive nublets beg to differ. ;) Thus I do not accept complaints regarding that.

Update: I have officially decided to allow select members of the RiP and tPoD guilds to be granted certain admin privileges, pending some AMX tweaks that may cause problems regarding RCON. (PM me if you can help, and I'll explain then)

New update: My server is now running AMXX! Also, a new rule regarding begging for items has been added; begging for items is officially grounds for banning, the exception being for expendables like potions, crystals, and arrows (But not tomes). This also applies to asking people to buy you stuff.

Today I am going to push the limit, by hosting two six player dedicated servers! I need feedback on lag, since I won't be here, so please, let me know.

there are a few things in the steam support section that are helpful this being one of the most:

Code:
Determining Optimal Maxplayers

The maxplayers setting should be optimized related to your uplink connection. If you are unsure of your uplink connection speed, go to www.dslreports.com and run the free speed test.

You will see two numbers, download and upload (or uplink).

Download is how fast you can get data to the server. Upload/uplink is how fast the server can send data out to players.

Basically for internet connections (bits/second):

    * 128k uplink = 4 players (2 players for srcds)
    * 256k uplink = 7 players (4 players for srcds)
    * 320k uplink = 9 players (6 players for srcds)
    * 512k uplink = 14 players (9 players for srcds)
    * 768k uplink = 21 players (14 players for srcds)
    * 1024k uplink = 28 player (19 players for srcds - note 16 players is max for HL2DM)
    * 1140k uplink = 32 players (max for HLDS) (21 players for CS:S)
    * 1708k uplink = 32 players for CS:S (max)

Your particular optimal setting may vary depending on your connection. Local players on LAN are not included in this count.

A good rule for HLDS is 35.6Kbits per player.

A good rule for SRCDS (Source Games) is 53.4KBits per player (about 1.5x more than HLDM).

Certain maps and MODs may take more uplink bandwidth.

This maxplayers setting also assumes you are running the following server rate limits (in the server.cfg file):

//minimum rate allowed
// use 5000 for SRCDS Servers
sv_minrate 3500

// no limit on maxrate for LAN only use 7500 for regular server
// this controls how fast maps can be downloaded by clients
//sv_maxrate 0 = unlimited
// Use 9999 for SRCDS servers
sv_maxrate 7500

// this is the minimum playable updaterate, leave this at 13
sv_minupdaterate 13

// 60 for updaterate is LAN ONLY use 13 for internet
// 20 is default but will cut the maxplayers you can handle in 1/2
// for SRCDS Servers use 30 - you might be able to use 20
// sv_maxupdaterate 60
sv_maxupdaterate 13

This is how I know I can make two servers on one computer and not be limited by bandwidth, instead I get limited by the server CPU.

my upload speed is 992Kbps thus I can in theory have 21 players on one server, do to CPU constraints however I can't. Also to know that your limited by CPU its simple look at the task manager performance tab, then make your server change map, watch as your CPU spikes. If your CPU doesn't max out at 100% during a map change then you can run two servers at the same time otherwise every time one of the servers changes map the other server experiences a short lockup.

I would say you could almost run 3 possibly even 4 if done right, assuming the computer is dedicated to only running the servers that is.

*edit*

so in theory you could run 4 servers with a max player of 8 in each one, thats of course if the CPU doesn't wall out before the 2nd or 3rd server instance. Though with the two cores you should be able to set the first two to an affinity of the first core and the other two the affinity of the second core.

[personalthoughts]I would get a l33t cooler and OC the c2d to 3.4 ;)[/personalthoughts]

But hey, if ya don't feel comfortable doing it, or have no real use for it, then there's no need. I was just thinking how MS:C is a "brute force game". Runs HL1 engine, no multithreading, eats alot of CPU. Then you run two instances of it ;)

Why? Thothie's got the e6600 i think @ stock (doesn't seem like the type of guy who OCs >.<). His server sometimes lags to heck, and I dun think its his connection =|

I just got this processor, I think I'll keep it safe for now ;)

Yeah, sounds good :D

I guess not everyone is willing to take risks like me. I'm getting a Q6600 with G0 stepping (Yay!) in a few days, gonna OC it outta the box to 3.2 (of course, not with the stock cooler).

Note: I'll be shipping a new msc.amxx to you later, I think it solves the mapvote issue (works for me).
