How, in the hell, did they pull that!?

I'm gonna have to ask some questions and find out who CMD has to give a blow job to...

Granted, they more or less needed to be set up that way - the last Steam patch messed CoF up pretty good - but, of course, it fried us too... WTH mon? :|

We were given the engine sourcecode by Valve because we kinda need it for the standalone, as we were greenlit

So you can't license it, but if you get greenlit, you can get it for free? This, after I was told they weren't Green Lighting Goldsrc games? Dafuq...

I was beginning to think they didn't even *have* the source code anymore, and were just tweaking the supporting DLLs.

Angry letter teim...

This is probably a stretch... but do we have enough people in the MS:C community backing it to get it greenlit?

Edit: I should say *active*... enough people around who still give a damn or two?

Not anymore, but I guess thats why we wanted to make it standalone in the first place. So many crap you dont have to pay for get thousands of players.

However it outlived many mods, some probably way more deserving the source code (natural selection, the specialist, they hunger)

Well, NS did have some inside help...

I r investigating / writing angry letters... I suspect this may end with me shelling out $100 for it, at least - but hell, I'd do it at this point, given how much we were looking at to license the thing before, when Valve poo-poo'd the idea.

Shouldn't being standalone, or greenlit, require the mod has 100% OG content though?

Not everything in CoF is OC either... Granted, they're not the mercenary pirates we are, of course, but so long as the mod is free, there shouldn't be any legal issues, and there's nothing in the Green Light EULA that says all materials must be OC.

Speaking of Valve screwing us, has anyone taken a few moments to test the double click fix? (Shoot, I just noticed Half-Life updated again... Hrmm...)

MEDIA CONTEST 2013 GO

im positive it would help. truth is i think MSC is too ugly.. and thats a large part of why we dont have a community. it's sad but everyone out there cares more about what a game looks like rather than if its actually worth playing. a friend of mine even found an article about it like a week or two ago and brought it to my attention..

(im not trying to put down and artists here who may have put a lot of work into what they have ingame)

I'm just saying... it'd leave a stale taste in any new-comer's palate you know... playing a map with HARRY POTTER music, or maybe WoW music....or models.. It just seems tacky and unprofessional... We'd be better off rehashing models we already have rather than using stolen content.

And im saying a new contest will have as crappy results as last time (have you seen any entry in the model section?) unless it can be advertised outside the HL mods section.
The most crowded section of the latest contest was the skins section and most of them were textures with filters slapped on top anyway.

Of course I would love to see non stolen models and I hate all of msc music anyway, im playing with muted music anyway.

Damn FER, that was harsh, some of the music is worth listening, but not all of it.

For example i think the sorc_villa theme + background music suits it nicely, the one with some chick singing.
Or the one in isle, also good.

And i thought mappers section was the most crowded...? It was like 6-7 entries vs 1 entry in the skinning section and 1 entry in the models. Some people were planning on getting in but they never showed up, or perhaps they forgot or simply ignored it in the end (or no time).

Oh yeah, Ceriux's hammer, forgot about that.

Maybe instead of doing this contest we should just update the to-do list (add the borrowed models that need to be replaced) and reward with games or something.

How can you say the contest had poor results when we got half a dozen new maps out of it?

FER does have a small point, guess that shows we have more mappers than modelers right now...

FER, perhaps u should try organizing the next contest, oyster as a mapper, got mostly maps out of it, you as a modeler, perhaps we would get mostly models out of it?

Does that mean FER is gonna teach me how to model, just like how oyster taught me how to map? Oh boy! I get to learn TWO skill sets this year!!! Hooray!! :D

Well someone got half a dozen maps out of it. As of yet, not MSC though. ;) I think MS:Community has the only one that wasn't hijacked for a distant grander project, and I still need to hear back from him regarding his latest version.

Well, most of the stuff that is on the to-do list has been there for five years or more.

I suspect, in any copyright infringement search, the music is a bigger problem than the models (and we've not actually stolen that many models, it's just they are wild in their variety). We have enough OC and PD music that we could simply duplicate some tracks - might mean some map editing though.
