I wrote something new for MSC today and I really think it will work this time. Rarely does the writing process go so smoothly for me.

I disapprove of using Chapels music on Islesofdread1 so I wrote a new theme song for that map.

I REALLY hope you like this, Thothie, and that you will consider using it in game some day. I would be especially appreciative if you used it for islesofdread1. Regardless, just let me know if it is being used and for what.

Enjoy.

If you make it more legato, and turn up the attack on that growling brass, it will sound more natural. Maybe add a little chorus, and reverb on the whole mix.

My turn to ask about your musical credentials :p

I also improved big time on the last composition I posted that was rejected (and for obvious reasons). It still is completely unfit for MSC, but I'll post it on the off chance that someone has a use for it/someone likes listening to it.
Could see using it for Hall of Deralia, should I ever make it to that dream world when I get a chance to write scripts up for it, and have something to properly block that cross with.

Loops kinda suck in MSC, as it is difficult (read impossible) to make music loop with any accuracy. There'll always be a gap. It may not always even be the same gap.

re: Islesofdread1 - Music changes for existing maps should be run by their map designers, as sometimes they are composed by the designers themselves or by their buddies - but I do not think J would have any objections in this case. I gotta screw with it to make the monsters spawn chains more dependable in anycase.

My turn to ask about your musical credentials
Started playing electric bass at 14 years old and sucked royally. Continued to play, became obsessed with writing music, took an AP music theory class at 16, and continued to suck royally. I started playing Piano at 18 and found a teacher who is beyond incredible. An 84 year old WW2 Pilot from SOVIET RUSSIA! He was a professor of composition and piano at Moscow conservatory for 25 years and studied composition under Shostakovitch. I am not the best musician in the world and I was born without the talent that many people I meet have. I must attribute every ounce of my success to this amazing man (seriously, he gives me 4-8 hour lessons... EVERY DAY if I have the time). Aside from the fact that I haven't played electric bass in years, this is where my story ends.

Thothie -

If Hall of Deralia is ever completed you will be my hero for like, 2 months straight (Not that you aren't already every nerds hero). If you used my music in the map I would be quite pleased, as I was going to give it to a girl I liked but SHE WAS MORMON AND GOT MARRIED FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUU so nothing ever came of this music. A real shame because the majority of music I have written has been rather crappy but this one isn't so bad. At least not in my opinion. Were this music actually given a purpose some day I would be appreciative. (Pardon me for being just a little bitter xD)

As for looping being impossible in MSC, that kind of blows. At least now I am not so ashamed about looping my islesofdread1 music into infinity.

And I would never want to screw someone over by making them use my music instead of their own. I chose Islesofdread1 because it never had any music before the patch and after the patch it was given chapels music. I really like that music but I don't think it fits the map well.

One person mentioned to me that my song might be better suited at b_castle. If you put it there instead I wouldn't mind either as I absolutely hate the noise that is the b_castle music and, if I recall, it is composed by someone not from this community. If it WAS composed by someone in this community happily ignore that idea.
Also, it might be important to note that more than one person has told me the music is not fit for islesofdread1. This is primarily due to those chimes, and one person even went as far as telling me it was 'too happy sounding' for a high level dungeon. I will never understand that sentiment, but if people don't want it there perhaps that is something to consider?

Edit: When I spoke about the b_castle music I was referring to the music that plays BEFORE you enter the castle.

Yeah... Thats not going to happen. See, I made b_castle. So I have the first, and only say what goes and what stays in that map. And my brother made the music for me. So that will be staying.

I recalled something along those lines and figured as much. I already named the file islesofdread1.mp3 anyways. ;)

I listened to the islesofdread music you made and i think the chimes are a bit too high pitched... maybe use a different instrument to get the same effect? i suggest something lower but its your music... just stating my opinion

Personally I think that the new music shouldn't replace music already in maps. Instead you should just list all the music which is made and a mapper can use one if they see fit.

I strongly disagree, dridje, especially in cases where the music is ripped off from movies like harry potter (ie, the keep) or games like diablo (nightmare thornlands).

Absolutely anything taken from a commercial product should be replaced if at all possible.

That music's very nice, somehow the way it sounds, i think it fits more for the_wall than islesofdread1 (even though i haven't seen the map)

I'm just saying this, since i heard the_wall is going to be a hard map... and this music is kinda related to the map name in my opinion! Anyways keep it up

Mappers will have the final say as far as music for their map concerned, even if it be pirated... Assuming it isn't anything ridiculous like Lady Gaga's anthem or such. >_>

I wrote a new piece of music. I had a discussion with dridje about possibly using it in a future map, although I don't know if that will happen. It is shiti midi at the moment, but I plan on recording this on my real piano (with shitty Microsoft audio editor, no less) and when I do I'll repost this. I hope those of you who listen enjoy it, regardless of whether or not it is ever used in a map.

During my hiatus from the internet I wrote a number of songs, two of which were intended for msc maps (dridjes Deralia_Sewer and srgnt rehabs orc_for)

Here is dridjes sewer music. I tried to express the feeling of mischief with it, and so it is titled. It is scored for string quartet. I don't know if this is possible, but I would like it to accompany a chase through the sewers. I'd like the players to chase a fugitive down (suliban, by chance?) and then have it timed so that they get ambushed right at the climax of the music.

http://www.4shared.com/audio/5CsMQrmw/Mischief.html
- on a semi unrelated note, I showed this to a professional arranger and he offered to have it performed and recorded/glee.

This next piece, hopefully, will find it's way into orc_for. I think it's rather good, probably the best thing I have ever written. I think it stands alone as a work of art so it might be too intricate for use in a video game. Either way, I still hope it makes it in game as it is my current pride and joy.

Here is a small dreamy sounding piece. It is appropriately titled Reverie. Perhaps this could work for 'The Observatory' during the night time (assuming that is a peaceful map)? Or perhaps Kray Eldorad at night or a smaller village in Eswen Sylen?

http://www.4shared.com/audio/R47kSlL2/Reverie.html

This particular piece is a facetious tribute song to the late Gary Coleman. It works well as a tribute because it is short and sounds like it would be better off in the 70's.

http://www.4shared.com/audio/ITjRPF91/T ... leman.html

This oddly titled piece reminds me of Beethovens 'Rage over a lost penny', only not as good. If anybody (particularily mappers or thothie) likes the melody I can orchestrate it for use in game.

http://www.4shared.com/audio/x_TNrt8V/T ... doles.html

Finally, here is a simple waltz that is so-so in quality. I saw a place called 'Dayla Haven' on the MSS world map. It could probably fit a place like that as it reminds me of a small village covered in snow. I can orchestrate this, too, if anyone wants to make use of it.

http://www.4shared.com/audio/ffPiTH0w/W ... _Snow.html

Edit: A big thank you to Thothie and J for using my music in Islesofdread1. I appreciate the gesture and I may even re-orchestrate the piece with better samples if it isn't too much work to replace.

I agree, it sounds night-ish, sleepy, and dream-ish.
