dark messiah:

+best first person melee combat system so far
+good athmosphere
+good KI
+good graphics
+many ways to interact with the envirement (wich mostly means to kill enemys with it:spikes, pits, fire, stuff falling on them)

-very Linear so not mich freedom
-almost no interaction with any other NPC means no shops, no smalltalk like in Oblivion
-there are some hidden path's and some hidden weapons (i found them ALL)
but not still not enought to say it's not damn linear.
-the multiplayer DOES suck, noch argueing about that not a matter of opinion it's a matter of fact.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

oblivion:

+HUGE world i mean seriously HUGE with hundreds of dungeons, fortresses, ruins, caves and other landmarks to explore.
+Living Envirement, Bears, Boars, deers, and NPC's walking, hunting, going to shrines etc. in all areas
+good athmosphere
+many weapons and armor, spells and other equipment
+you can interact with all NPC's, talk to them about rumors, small talk, argue, trade (yes you can learn to trade with ANY NPC)
+cast constant spells on your armor weapons and everything else to make them the way you want em.
+open ending means after beating it you can still do everything you want
+you can buy and furnish houses from a small wooden shack to a big manor and more
+++CUSTOMIZABILTY: you can change EVERYTHING! make the game even more beautiful, there are even performance enhancing plugins so you can play with a little bit of eyecandy even on 5500FX (but don't expect toooo much)
+many more stuff just too lazy by now...

-KI sometimes acts pretty dumb, but most of the times is alright it doesn't kill the athmosphere
-the story line isn't thaaat great, your doin more sidquests anyway
-some minor stuff i just can't remeber by now

IF you get oblivion be sure to gethe game of the year edition, already patched and with both addons. shouldn't cost too much.

I can't play at ALL on a 5500 FX, as it's really laggy. It could be due to my 2.6 ghz p4 (though the minimum is 2, reccomended is 3). Other than that, I have no clue, and I've even turned down the graphics settings as much as I could.

hm maybe i overstimated the FX serious...it really was crappy...i suggest going here: http://www.tweakguides.com/ it's the best source to get some more performance / picture quality out of big game titles of the last years. of course there's an oblivion tweak guide.

in addition you should try Nhancer http://www.nhancer.com/ a tool for nvidia cards to change the graphics settings for games seperatly.

you can create a profile for any game (theres already on for oblivion) and you can change settings not shown in the nvidia driver menu and most people don't even know that their card was capable of.

i tell you HL1 engine with full supersampling/AF/Transparent AA is so sharp you could cut yourself.

ati user use this one http://www.guru3d.com/article/atitraytools/189/
it's mostly the same thing.

i was suprised what performance gain i had by tweaking the Oblivion inis to my system specs and needs. also using nhancer can quit improve performance.

I play Dark Messiah with a GeForce FX5200. I have to put pretty much everything on low but it still looks good.

I wish I could run Oblivion though. I heard that my card won't be able to run it. :oldcry:

thanks alot guys, i really appreciate you spending your time summarising almost everything about these games, making it easier for me to select the game i want :D :D :D

i think i'll stick with oblivion, the idea of a complete environment and open-endedness just conquers me >.<
