Hey guys, me and my cousin used to play this years and years ago and was very happy to find its still being supported, so thanks for that. We download it install and play for a few hours and all is great, however 2 days later when we try to play he cannot connect to my server, infact he cannot connect to any server or even create his own. On attempt he gets to establishing connection to server etc and maybe gets 1 or 2 bars but then the game freezes and has to be alt tab deleted.
Hes running windows 7, any ideas?

Did he update any of the drivers in his system since the last time he played, or maybe some anti-virus app or firewall type application?

Check the msc/log_msdll.log and msc/log_cldll.log after such a crash. Also try running in a Window to see if you can catch any pop-ups from the engine side.

Maybe a corrupt character involved as well, though it wouldn't be the usual overflow error, as that doesn't kick in until you actually try to load the character into the game.

Not trying to sound offensive but..

If it would be a corrupt character, Would it really affect the entire game, no matter the server?

If the servers are all FN server (thus always loading the same character set), then yes, it could be. But check those log files, for while it is possible, I suspect something else is likely up.

Hmm well it seems more widespread than just ms, i got him to try to create/join any server on a normal half life game but he gets the same freezing, all anti virus removed and no firewalls. Maybe he did something bad and karmas punishing him lol. He's gagging to play this game and he got drawn in witha 2 hour session and now cannot get on a server for love nor money! tried googling to problem but cannot get any solutions. weird problem imo.

Ah, well if all the Half-Life mods are affected, then we're in more familiar territory, oddly enough.

Exit Steam. Delete clientregistry.blob in your Steam install. Reboot. Restart Steam.

If that fails, uninstall Steam, manually wipe the affected folders, and reinstall, but in all likelihood, the above will fix it.

Against the forum rules to post ingame spoilers on the forums so you might as well ask ingame, no consequences there :p

Pretty sure he is playing on lan, not FN. Unless he creates a FN character to ask... idk.
