I don't really have a solution, but my client side character did get toasted in a similar way as well (inventory issues) - all I can advice, is that if you are going to use client side characters - take advantage of the fact that you can back them up! (they are in msc/SAVE)

this happens with non-client side characters as well, as it is possible to transfer between lan/serverside/clientside (so long as you have the serverside), if you know what you're doing.

has anyone been able to overcome this without saying goodbye to their character?

Yeah, don't buy 200 health pots, or what not... Should realize you are pushing it when you do something like that. ;) I'll make a seperate thread with a warning...

You *might* be able to recover your character using this map:
http://www.thothie.com/ms/char_recover.bsp

But I *really* doubt it... Probably only works in the less severe cases, if any at all. It's a map with all of three entities on it. (spawn, begin, and a light, in a box - my first MSC map, yay! :p)

is the error memory related?

(would replacing potion model (if i bought 1000 potions) to a like....50 byte model, would that maybe help?)

Doubt it, I think it's just the entity limit (you've got more than 255 items)
