A thief has been found stealing items while people are trading!

SteamID : STEAM_0:0:6144871

He has stolen some items such as cobra skin and what not and is saying th at what ever is on the ground is free game and "finders keepers."
This kinda of attitude in the game is not cool and should be dealt with harshly!

Personally I'd call that a server-by-server issue. (Although I've recently discovered that, thanks to my buggy AMXmodX, I can't actually ban anyone on my server). I mean, however, if you actually drop valuable items on the ground in the open...

But it's up to Blasto if he wants to start deleteing characaters over that. Hopefully we've learned our lesson though: people are ***holes - don't run through central park with $100 bills glued to your face.

its not nice to take items on the ground but it doesn't warrent any action.

if people plan on doing a trade I suggest either a different server, or a location away from other people, most maps are big enough that you can do this.

thinking about it however, this seems to be a rising issue, I may start taking action if it really gets out of hand.

They were on Thornlands. I don't think they were expecting an Adventurer to know enough to steal the item.

Its chill. He stole the items ingame, he can be punished ingame. Unfortunately for him, he found me on a pvp server. Lets just say he doesn't have the items anymore, and they are back to their rightful owner.

This Rich guy was on my server yesterday (full name: Rich Conservative) along with two others.

I started downloading AUG2007b and then I asked the whole server through the console if there was any lag. Responses:

For some reason my own text didn't get logged, but another fellow in the server, Little Chod, responded normally and said there was no lag. However, this Rich guy KEPT TALKING IN ALL CAPS, telling me to "stfu" so at one point I said something like:
"You know, most admins would have kicked you by now... some would have even banned you..."

Anyway I decided to go in-game and he was still TALKING IN ALL CAPS. He stole an item from Little Cloud, but Izikar had joined and he stole it back (apparently CAPS LOCK MAN dropped the item on the ground while Izikar was near) and gave it to Little Cloud again.
This Rich Conservative noob got so annoying that we votekicked him.

Also, I just read in the server logs from the same day, but earlier, that Jelly slapped Rich about 40 times in a row, that Jelly kicked him using his admin powers, that somebody else initiated a votekick against Rich, and that he was asking Jelly and Sabre if he could:
- Make a map with all the rare items.
- Spawn items with AMX mod.

I'm quite sure this is the biggest ****ing noob I have ever, ever seen in this game. He's so amazingly dumb, you wouldn't believe it until you meet him in-game.

Edit: So yeah, this post reminds me: how do I log the things I say through the console? The "say <text>" (or if I'm in-game: "rcon say <text>") speech, it didn't get logged.

sounds like this character isn't all that bright. well I can't punish people based on stupidity, but everyone who runs a server is more than welcome to.

well if more and more people start acting this way, I may make a different form of punishment for characters of this nature. I figure most characters doing this aren't all that high a level and a two month roll back would be overkill.

for now, servers will have to govern over this issue.

Again, it's a menu option that was never actually coded for, and its beyond my ability to make from scratch.

I could actually envision a way to let a NPC do it for you, but I smell exploitable.

So yeah, this post reminds me: how do I log the things I say through the console? The "say <text>" (or if I'm in-game: "rcon say <text>") speech, it didn't get logged.

You'd have to re-write the plugin, or make yer own, I'm afraid. I guess you'd have to rig it to capture server-side “say” commands in addition to the client-side say_text X.

I've actually had it with the sh*t AMXmodX is pulling on my server, I may pull the plug on it until Hummingbird does something to fix the bugs (three months and nothing, so I'm not counting on it). I've also come up with some ideas on how it maybe possible to get all these functions out of AMX and into MSC, but it'd likely involve some complex hard code dancing.

Izikar is one of the people I want to ban from my server. He's ripped off several people trading items saying they can do what they do not. He ripped off Adventurer's Ravenmace, by giving him a G.Thunderaxe that Advent can't even use. He's more than once tried to drag people to other servers, which I don't mind, but when he doesn't get his way, he starts bogus votes for Edana. Basically he starts bogus votes for random maps whenever he's upset about anything, so...

This Rich guy is really weird. He wondered into Kuroneko's server, then picked up a shortsword that had dropped from one of the orcish flayers, then said 'thanks for the sword' then left. Damn, I really needed that shortsword! :roll:

The GUI is already there actually, for kicking/banning players and for voting. I was going to look into seeing if I could work up a script command to build votes, to make map votes (and votes in general).

The real trick is getting the disconnect/reconnect thing AMX does integrated into it.

Hmmm... Well, it maybe possible to just open up a store and have both clients confirm the trade... That was kinda what I was thinking when I said "have an NPC do it for ya". Basically ya "sell" the items to the NPC, and he only grants items to you and the guy you marked for trading. So... There's kinda GUI for that already, but I dunno how you get the confirm bit working.

I think the current drop-the-thing-you're-trading thing people are doing is fine for now. Usually, people don't interfere, and people who steal your stuff will get a face full of rollback.
