Ye list of models that need replacing...

Should explain, first off, there's actually no *legal* reason to replace these as of this date. The law may change in the future, but, I have it on good authority that, at the moment, since the original data form doesn't exist within our distribution, this is the equivalent of tracing pictures of Mickey Mouse, or some other similarly copyrighted cartoon character: you can do that all you want, and even distribute said tracings, as long as you don't sell them. Visual artwork copyright likeness laws, thankfully, aren't nearly as cruel as musical ones - even in the US.

The reason to replace them is two fold: Steam's Green Light's process might not like it (not that they've not let it slip by with some games, or done it themselves), and, perhaps just as importantly, it's just bad form. I'd add aesthetics as well, if not for the fact that our original models come from so many different authors that they lack any consistency as it is. So, unlike the music (which we have fixed), it's basically a combination of a potential private policy conflict, and morals - rather than law.

Similar to the music list, I am probably missing some. If you find one, please report it. Keep in mind, also, that some of our content is converted from other mods with permission, and is usually credited in the credits_betapack.txt. These mods include: Call of Cthulhu, Wanted, PVK, and Wizard Wars, among others.

I'm only taking meshes into account. Not bones, animations, or textures (unless they are specific logos - as trademarks are a whole other issue).

Lol, well our potential replacement (thank Zeus) certainly fits BBEG even better than the current model, but it is true, he's so good I almost want to save him for the Lor Malgoriand cameo.

I may simplify/tweak the story a bit so Maldora merely gets "possessed" by Lor Malgoriand and represent the "upgrade" by changing the submodels about, as they are pretty dynamic.

There's a lot of variants of this guy that I don't think should go to waste. Perhaps some of these could be "Followers of the Lost" or something?

Somehow the two main BBEG's would be a waste, yet some random one sentence entry that later got squished by the Lost's lack of sapience wouldn't be? :/

I mean, the only other lore related thing I could think to reserve a model that good for would be Khaz's human reincarnation, but that's set to be post the end of this story - intended for MSS. And given that's so in the future I expect to have a flying car and a copy of Half-Life 3 by then, I suspect it'd be a waste in a whole other way.

If something is missing, please point it out.

SFAIK, in the current patch, there are only 12 models of ~1300 that are "straight out", 10 of which are fixed in the alpha (not counting the weapons still in the monster's hands).

My apologies, I didn't read the original post properly. I skipped the greyed out parts near the bottom because I thought they were no longer relevant. Turns out these are (most) of the stuff I noticed, such as Torkalath Elves wielding Scourge or the friendly Elves carrying Eleidon's Ward.

Yeah - both those and the elf warriors that carry them are gone in the alpha - new elves came with their own weapon sets (though also tacked on some OC). Elf wizard and the violations he's carrying still needs replacing, but, as I've said elsewhere, materials yes, modeler no.

Phlames also still has his bad staff - but like I said, kinda skimming over weapons carried by mobs for a bit. They aren't as "in your face" and it'll take quite some time to fix, and we've no one dedicated to modeling at the moment.

You are, he isn't, yet... It is a royal pain to align those things, and I've got higher priorities in game at the moment.

Unless someone else can do it, of course.

I mean, just moving something is pretty easy but I do not know how to compile a model. I tried to actually correct the dark and phlame staff player models myself once.

Okay then, so it's just the Dragon Guards still using some offending weapons. (Checks) Yup, not fixed that yet. Actually not sure what I'm gonna replace that mega-hammer with, but I'm sure there's something here.

If you can get me a proper reference SMD, preferably with a copy of the new textures required, I can compile and see if it works out. It's just a pain for me. Seems monsters/dragon_guard.mdl is the last model that needs such a fix that isn't due to be replaced entirely. (Though he himself is in the "iffy" category.)

I would rather have this replace all the lizard/dragon folk. Or if you fancy diversity, you have this, this and this.

I could help with some extra donations if necessary, but yeah, i fear that Thothie probably has a backlog of donations to go through that adding another pile to the currently existing pile might be overkill and stressing. I would panic if i had plenty of stuff to mess around with, even more so if the pile just got bigger.

Last case scenario, i guess someone could try reskinning a currently existing enemy and try to make it look like they are lizard'ish. I believe there is an orc "poisoner" that uses a texture that could benefit this cause. Probably not the prettiest option but, it could work.

This is very true. I'd much rather see new features or content and bug fixes before models to replace stolen content. I'm not really very uptight about it, as I've never played most of the games where the models are borrowed from. No pressure on trying to replace everything all at once!

Meh, problem is it takes me days to weeks to convert some of these models - I mean it's easy enough for weapons, but monsters with animations and such, not only do I have to convert the model, I usually have to re-write the entire script.

It took me over six months to replace those Elf Warriors.

We've no dedicated modeler at the moment, or that'd go a lot faster.

That's because it's incomplete.
I knew I missed something; It's been a long, loooong time since I last played Eclipse but MS:C's "Swamp Keeper" is directly stolen from that mod. The model (...\msc\models\monsters\keeper.mdl), the sounds, even the name (watch from 07:20 to 07:40 at the very least).

Given, with permission. We actually have access to the source for all their models, but that's just about only one that's been real useful, and wasn't taken from elsewhere in turn.

The snow cavern bridge on the_wall2 would be another from Eclipse.

Shame how that mod died - not checked if they've managed to resurrect it.

I think it's from scratch by Glorfindel, though it may have been inspired by it. As I recall, we actually were going to use the VS xbow and hunted down permissions, but dropped the idea when he cooked that up.

Are you certain? The animations are identical, even down to this flipoff animation that doesn't even work properly on the MSC hands.

The textures are almost identical but the VS arms have been removed(except for a tiny bit above the scope), the cross has been covered over, the un-used scope recolored, the bolt fletching is recolored too, and the limbs have been recolored to some kind of metal.
