when you install the game(and everytime you update the game) a pop-up appears explaining what FN is and what maps are playable on it. you can view this page again by opening the file fuznet_readme.html in your msc folder

There's a more detailed list on my website as well:

With level ranges, and such.

Have you thought about making your page a little wider? Tons of background visible and there's so much scrolling down to do. Would be even cooler if you managed to get permission to update msremake.com instead and have all the information there...

I've some limited access to msremake.com - although not enough to remake that there... The page width design is meant to handle as wide range as resolutions as possible (so the 1024x768 users don't get clipping, etc.)... Been too lazy to work up a more scalable or java-scaling variant.

I remember when I first started playing; finding maps at my level was difficult. Especially because few would ever vote to change a level via a transition and then change back after finding out it was to hard. There should be an in game map kind of like the one thothie made but with danger level indicators.

The (horribly dated) beta world map does have danger level indicators, read the "outie" key. ;)

I need to make a new one, but I'm trying to think of an easy way to come up with a style that'd work for the forums background as well.

Yeah like that, but in game. Player would press "m" and something like this would come up
msmap.jpg

it's 512x512 so it would have to be cut up into four 256x256 sprites.

We lack the ability to put images on the hud right now (from the server, anyway). It's on the list of stuff to do, but none of us have really looked at it.

We couldn't use that map for two reasons, anyway. One, it would look bad to use a map with the levels and outlines. The map should be rough and handdrawn (looking). Second, I don't know if it's just me, but there are black spots all over that picture >_>;;

would it work if it was from the client?

...could even have fog over things they haven't been to - or have it not drawn at all, since char files store what maps you've been to iirc...

If we had it on the client, we could easily have it on the server. No one knows the proper function, off hand, and the HUD has that "It was hard to write, I'll make it hard to read." quality to it.

It's just an example, I just took thothie's image and threw it through phtoshop filters

It could as well be another item, just like the letter Venevus leaves behind, but of course, this is only a viable option when overflowing gets fixed.

Nah, it just needs another skin and a submodel under the venevus note model.

It's a good point though. I didn't discover gertenheld_cape till my character was somewhere between levels 18-25 or something - by way of seeing the transition there from deralia. I didn't actually visit the map till my charater level was in the high 20's - long after I was supposed to go there.

The problem in that case is that new players are the only ones who use the transitions - and there is no way of knowing the map exists until you reach deralia, which if you're keeping to transitions, will be long after you're supposed to visit. Luckily, it's a one-off - the only other map in danger of this kind of obscurity would be chapel, but that map is well known for it's good low level training. Hopefully, gertenheld_forest will help to alert the newer players of the map's existence - if higher players let them know of the forest and it's excellent drops for lower level players.

Reminds me, one of the things I should add to the REQ list... The paper texture on that damned view model is facing the wrong way. Need someone to flip it around or some such.

Export the texture, flip it in paint and import it again

After I made Gertenheld_Cape, I was expecting the higher level players to tell the newbies about it and direct them their. I don't think there is much that can be done to fix it. Oh well.

Iron Grip : The Oppression, a hl2 mod, has a map in game that serves as a minimap with a more realistic feal. It functions as a "weapon" in the game. By selecting it, the VGUI map pops up. It shows where you're moving like a minimap and the layout of the level which is cool. Couldn't find a screenshot anywhere, sorry. I know this isn't a hl2 mod but maybe it could work that way if you don't have any other ideas. However, it's not as important how you view the map in game. I think it would add a lot to have a map so it might be worth the effort of looking into it.

Ok ok i got it....Down loadable and printable Maps for every Fn allowed map.....So what if you cant add it ingame...Make one we can dl or print out and have....Doesnt have to show every little detail but then again it might have hints on things like a real map has.....Like example...ooh why does that wall there stick out at an 86.4% angle? Oh dang it crushed me while i was looking at map...Oh thats why it says in legend...Sometimes if you are dumb 86.4% of the time you will stuck between a rock and a hard place....(Ok Puns over) Maybe not spoilers like some ppl keep saying..but realistic maps like a treasure hunter likes....
