I have a quick suggestion to get around not being allowed to test on [FN] and cheatmaps in general. First, I'm assuming loading and saving are easily seperated if they aren't already.

Here's the idea:
Have a config file for the central server that lists all legal maps. Any server that tries to load or save on the central server is checked against this list. Any server on an unconfirmed map will be denied any request to save. This would of course would not prevent all forms of cheating (I can think of a couple ways around this), but it will save mapmakers trouble as not only will we not have to mess with our server configs evey time we want to test, but we could also test our maps publicly with pub players on [FN] (Helpful if your map requires teamwork). Also, the config file is easily modified.

There've been various exploritory comittees looking into this sort of thing...

Meanwhile, there's no reason to test your maps on [FN]. Already had to delete one player who insisted on doing this repeatedly.

My information.
I think Annoying just came up with a solution to allow testing on FN...

Since if your character wont' save on an illegitimate map, then there's no worries about using it on FN...

I'd like to know this Thothie; is Annoying's little idea he mentioned here plausible?

If so, awesome... since it would also make it easier in the sense of using your own character for test maps too; without having to:
A) Find the backup site
B) Find your character from the rather large number in the backup
EDIT:
C) Cry upon finishing, from happiness that you figured it out

Well, FN security is a top priority (ie. version control). Can lump it in with that.

I've not tried recompiling the central code yet - I'm a little worried we don't have it all, since I can't find that disconnect string.

But seriously, it ain't that hard to use one of the test chars. I do intend to make a meaner test char for these high end maps.

the advantage of this is just that you'll always have an up-to-date character...

and not having to change configs...but meh, i'm fine as is....after i know where the dern FN backups got to >.<

I'll PM ya the link again... I'd drop it in the public forums, but just fear some abuse somehow. Not that there are many client side servers running where it could be abused, but still...

My information.
If it's client-side, then who cares.

I.E.-
If I'm playing on my own server, with my character saved on my own computer, I'll feel free to cheat, hack, and dice it up at my own will. Since I will consider any & all files on my computer as my property (seeing as to how I have a legit O/S and own the computer, along with the hard-drive everything is stored on)...

But for things like FN, the central server; I will hold that in respect & restrain myself from cheating; but should an exploit arise (like the old SC-sublevel experience one) I will probably end up abusing it till you fix it Thothie...

And now I challenge you to find the part in the "BoU oath" (Blades of Urdual Honour Code) that says we are not allowed to use exploits

I didn't edit the Honour Code by the way:

You should know this Thothie; I don't even have a client-side character of any kind :p

It's all on FN, so I can't be cheating or hacking in any way whatsoever.

>_>

The rules of my BoU server state that you can't use exploits.
The rules of the guild, however, do not state this.

Those are two different things
