Need PC suggestions.

Hey guys, I'm looking to get a new computer as my current Asus is burning out and slowly dying. I was looking at a few alienware laptops and the thing I've noticed with laptops is that they die within a few years. I've never had a desktop before and was looking at a few of those, although I'm not really into the whole "customize and build your own rig" thing. If you guys could give me any recommendations and post links to a few good laptops/desktops I'd really appreciate it

What Koldern said; stop being a lazzy babby and build yourself a computer. Laptops are expensive and not as good for gaming as an equivalent desktop would be, nor do they outdate themselves as parts are (relatively) easy to replace.

4gb are enough, you don't need 6gb, 8gb nor 16gb, but if you really want to waste your money, go ahead.
gfxcards.. meh, depends on what you need. if you only play old games and a few newer ones a nVidia 9800GT or something will do (Yes, im recommending nvidia. i'm currently using an XFX HD5750 and all I got is a lag fest on games like GTA4, etc, even on MS:C. (While it both ran smoothly with my old 8600GT.))
then a good processor.. it's up to you if you choose intel or AMD, they both have good stuff (i3 or an X3.)
and a good mainboard, Gigabyte produces some good ones, but you should always look at the stuff it provides, for example the ammout of SATA inputs etc.

Well, if yer running Win7, I would suggest 8GB as you need that much for the XP emulation mode, and as Travella says, memory be cheap. Besides, Win8 will probably require 16GB, the way Micro$oft writes OS's.

Similarly, you midas well get a DX11 ready gfx card. I think the GeForce GTX 460's go for around $150 now (though a decent brand will put you into the $200's, easily).

SSD's are nice, but they tend not to have much space on them less you shell out of lotta bux (and even the biggest, most expensive ones don't really cut it in the long run). If you get one, keep in mind you'll only be able to have your primary OS on it, and nothing else, especially given how Windows operating systems like to expand over time. You'll likely want to grab a standard 1TB HDD (~$100) for everything else.

Nah not realy waste of money, it depends if ur just gonna watch low res movies and play hl1 games its not worth it, but if your gonna watch high res movies and its nice with 22 or bigger screen fits mutch more on desctop or you gonna use photoshop .
Its not so expencive to buy Ips panel these days anways...

Thanks for all the suggestions guys! My dad's build PC's in the past, so he may be able to help me out there to. I still love laptops more than desktops though, as I'm always traveling. I've looked at a few nice laptops, although they are pretty spendy.

Might wanna go with less memory, rather than more, then, as more memory = less battery life.

HAHAHAHA mac... Also, I always keep my laptop plugged in (which really doesn't help battery life at all). Not really worried about battery life.

That's... Pretty pathetic for that price. Everything save the CPU is generic (and even that, only because they had no choice). Plus HP's are just crap, be they desktop or laptop. (And if you're going to go desktop, Largo's advice still applies.)

You're just buying the HP sticker (Same reason why Alienware is overprice garbage), and for having the added-on Norton, that no one needs.

Ahh I see. Thank you all for your suggestions and help! My father plans on helping me build a rig here Sunday or so.
