Even I don't know...
So I've been working on random junk amature maps, but I have been gaining some confidence in my maps.

Perhaps if I happen to produce something greater then the things produced in a toilet, I will post it here. I was talking to JM v.2.5.5 and I think that was perhaps the fastest confidence destruction :oldcry:
But I have some nice ideas, mostly built for low lvls for a different grinding experience from the regular thornlands and sfor grind. My targeted lvls are 6-12, maybe with some enemies for lvl 15-19s to pick at, but nothing too hard for a new player.

Side note: Is Thothie still around? I have been really missing his messages. I've been playing a long time, but not really big on the forums, apparently it looks like it is 1/2 the game :oldshock:

Forum's where a good part of the community is at. There are not many who play the game that don't at least lurk the forums.

Post anything you've made so far for constructive critisism... I'm no good at mapping but we have mappers who can give you pointers. It's nice to see new mappers either way

Also, yes, Thoth is still around.

By the way, welcome to the community

You may have noticed, we're not too picky about map quality, so amature efforts are welcome. So long as it's playable and isn't a cheat map, we'll toss it in.

Should explain what we need these days are high level maps, more than anything else, but work on what you want to work on - keeps the motivation going.

There there, J-M, we all know you're really just the c00l3st person to ever live.

Also, yes, there are many that lurk these forums consistently. It gets very interesting in these parts of town. :?

No actually I was just explaining yesterday in-game to this guy that I detest maps that look like crap (and MS:C has quite a lot of them) but I never knew that'd destroy his confidence.
It surely does imply something, though.

Anyway, if this guy wants to make maps for MS:C, he should. I'll even help him if he needs help. But if he makes a map that is horribly ugly, he'll know that at least one person won't really like it. And if he cares about it, that's his call.

The good ol' "You can't fucking please everyone, so just do what you can." philosophy.
Too bad not everyone understands this fully. :|

I could possibly have a rough draft of my map done next sunday, but I'd like to spend more time on it for extra details.

That's what I just said. Glad we understand each other!

You don't have to full map as your first map. Just try out hammer and see what you can get, so get the hang of Hammer first then make a concept for a map. That's what I would do.

I guess that may be difficult for lazy people like me :p

At first mapping for Hammer was complicated but when I looked up some tutorials and got a grip on some of the basics, mapping was practically a hobby at that moment of time. However the mains issues of mapping is motivation and inspiration, sure you may have this idea for a good map, but you'd be worthwhile jotting your ideas down while you can.

I've had so much inspiration for maps and made certain parts to them and just suddenly stop because I can't think of what to do next! Altough I think to myself that the reasons are because "I don't have all the resources like models and sounds ready for it" or "I have an idea for another map". However I've never actually had one worthwhile release that isn't just a few blocky rooms with bad entity placement.

One thing that could work is getting together the newbie mappers to work on a community map of some sort, possibly with some vets along to help out with detail. I've been thinking about mapping, but I too can't get the motivation to begin, but if something like this could be planned out between us mapping novices, perhaps we could get something done.

This statement was fail :( I am currently still working, but my map feels incomplete and I am ashamed of how it is at the moment, perhaps by the end of thanksgiving? I really hope this doesn't turn into another pushback after pushback type thing.

Here's the source for the huts I built for Daragoth.

http://www.thothie.com/msc_dev3/daragoth_huts.rar

These huts are hella complicated though. They don't look like much (tried to make them look as much like the originals as I could), but they have a series stepped of monster clips that allow monsters to use the mesh on the sides of the huts as ladders, just as players can, and other clips to discourage archers placed on top of the huts from coming down. (I've also included the textures in a wad - albiet it actually contains all the textures used in Daragoth - more than ye need.)

In addition, in the southern end of the map source, is the much simpler hut, model based, with a proper func_wall built around it (so the model will stop projectile fire, and clip movement roughly proper). Generally, these simple model huts are the way to go.

Thanks Thothie :) I am making progress (Sorry I ended up making my own huts after seeing these)

I want to make just a few more things, and I have some new script ideas to make this map less boring. The quest like objective would be similar to the one for getting a regular crossbow. (Simple and all on the one map)

After hours of working and testing... and then making pretty, and working some more, I finally have a small teaser to see if anyone likes my map.

I just remembered, I would like to get some music that fits the look of the foresty parts with orc huts, if anyone wants to help me with that... Also I don't know what sky I should use, anyone got a late afternoon dusk kind of sky that they don't mind sharing?

Hey this map looks cool and fun. Too bad it's for low levels though. Would it be possible to have it in 2 versions? One for low and one for high levels. We need a high level free roam, maybe some ripent could actually make it "please anyone"
