How to install on steam

Well i would easily be able to figure out how to do this by myself but there is 1 HUGE problem that is stopping me. I have no half-life folder. I have looked everywere and there is no half-life folder. I can see all the other things like half-life2, lostcoast all of those things. I tried making my own half-life folder were it tells me to but still doesnt work. I have installed halflife and i can play it. So somehow its implemented into steam and not making a folder. What should i do?

You have to have Half-life installed via Steam. Then install MS:C into the Steam\SteamApps\xxx@<email.com>\half-life

Also..have you actually RAN Halflife, or just downloaded it? I had to run mine before MS:C would play..but thats just me.

yeah that folder doesnt exist and i have gone into halflife but i guess ill go into the first level to make sure.

EDIT: Ok i went into the first level and came back out and there is still no folder.

C:\Program Files\valve\SteamApps\my email addres only has these folders: counterstrike source, day of defeat souce, half-life 2, half-life 2 deathmatch, and lostcoast]

EDIT 2: I found an old copy of the half-life folder on my old harddrive which has steam so ill copy it over to this one and see if it works. I dont think it will but its worth a try.

Ok well ive found a way around it. I installed it to my old harddrive so now it works i dont know why. But as long as i can play i guess its all good

Odd...Well, at least it works for you. Strange though, it says Program Files\Steam\ for me, and Program Files\valve\ for you.

Mine's in the valve folder as well, I think it's the default install directory.

its weird i know but i think the newer steam installers install into ...\program files\steam...
i have about 4 computers with steam installed and they have different directories :?
its no big deal the computer that plays MSC has the ...\program files\steam... directory so its not that...
i suggest reinstalling HL then playing it and then restarting steam.
if that doesnt work then damn

There are a dozen freaking different Steam packages, and they all install to different folders - this being the source of the problem. He probably has the bronze HL2 package, or one of the three Counterstrike packages.

Hopefully next version will have a self installer - if not, I may do something about it.

nope i have the silver package and dont have any counterstrike packages as far as i know. When i use that little batch file thing it brings me to my D: drive steam directory which happens to be my seconday drive which works. My primary drives problem might be that i copied steam over from another installation. So a full reinstall of steam might fix it. Thanks for the help though everyone!

Aaaaah... Yeah, you raped Steam, so your registry entries are dated. This will cause you other problems too.

Reinstall steam - just tell it to reinstall in the same folder it's currently in. Careful though, it tends to install in an unexpected folder (one folder deeper than you define, I think).
