Game Permanantly Frozen then Crash

So the game froze while in Helena earlier today. It shows my ping as 3333333 or -- when I join a server now and remains frozen. After I rebooted my computer and multiple attempts to connect to other servers it just remained frozen anytime I joined with the same weird ping. However now it just crashes on start-up and I can't get anywhere. Any ideas?

Few things to try, though you may just need a character rollback:

- Check your Steam->Setting->Downloads+Cloud and see if the indexing changed your connection type.
- Go to console (~) and...
- Check cl_updaterate is in a reasonable range (~100)
- Check that cl_cmdrate is in a reasonable range (~100)
- rate and cl_rate should be ~20k and ~5k, respectively
- ex_interp 0 (auto)
- fps_max 999
- cl_cmdbackup 6

There's a lot of other rate related settings, but those are the only ones I can think of that would just totally lock your system if they were set to something ridiculous by some malicious admin or cfg corruption.

See if any other Half-Life mods are exhibiting similar behavior (if you have any).

If all that fails, blame character corruption, and request a rollback yonder.
