The Battle Of Grailen -By Dridje

The battle between the humans and orcs took place 123 years ago. In the end, the humans won...

There is an evil orc wizard who wants to get revenge for the slaughter of all of his relatives. He is an Orc Wizard whos
element is fire. He recently found a time portal which can take him back in time, so he decides to use it to go back to the
battle and give the orcs the advantage. He summons his fire creatures and with them, the human army stands no chance.
He has changed time by making the orcs win the battle. After the battle, he got a tower built in his name, and with his great
power and this tower, he has immortal life. He slowly is building his army up in the past, and is getting ready to send a
MAJOR attack on all the humans/dwarves/and goblins everywhere. No mercy to them, if you are in one of the following groups
you die. All the towns will be destroyed, and no humans will live. But, back in the present time, the players' find a
wizard who tells them of the Orc Wizard. The wizard tells them that they have one chance to stop the orc wizard or in
3 years, he will send out his armies to destroy the world. The players' first go find the portal that the orc wizard
used to go back in time. One they sieze control of the portal, with the help of the wizard, they activate the
portal, and go back in time to stop the Orc Wizard. The players' battle on the human's side, against the Orc Wizard,
the orcs, and the fire monsters. The players' HAVE to win the battle or all hope is lost. Monsters will spawn in waves,
the waves will consist of orcs and a few fire monsters. Every 5th wave, human allies will appear to help the battle.
When the players' beat all of the orcs, and the fire monsters, the Orc Wizard will teleport the players' to a secret
arena area to finish the battle with them. (he knows that they are from the future.) When the players' kill the orc wizard,
the good wizard from the future time, will appear, thank them, reward them, then a portal will appear. And the players'
will go through the portal, and they will be back at the area where they found the wizard before. But the scene will be
different. It will look nice, and the tower that orc wizard had built in the past won't be there. There will not be
any undead or orcs in the area either. It will be peaceful with rats and boars. The players' will then be able to go to
different maps by a transition point.

Do you think you could have at least come up with an ORIGINAL story/map design? I mean, I know you want to be like me and rip all my stories...

I am not really good at story. If someone talk to me about the map design and I could come up with some ideas. but with story and names. No... Dridje came up with the name and story.


but I can tell you little bit about this map...
there is no grass, daylight or a place to heal. Everything is just on fire and your in hell... :)

I'm fairly certain no "Hell" exists in the Master Sword storyline continuity. You'd have to run that by Lanethan, as he has the final say on story elements.

Lets give him some time, he just started his map and a map doesnt look good from the start, it requieres time and polishing.

About the "hell", would it be better if the monsters would be from the underworld, near the core of the earth?

So what you're saying is.. It's like foutpost, but with a slightly different story, scarier map, and harder monsters?

How is that not nightmare_foutpost?

Right now I am working on the wad file to use for this map. which means whole new graphic.

He is also reading and understanding mapping tutorials so he will make a great map. Remember Pimpsta, ask me for help if you need it, because I will help if I can. If you also contact evil squirrel, he might be able to help you with your mapping.

P.S. I have your .wad file, I'll be testing it in a couple minutes.

I think the issue in the wad file is this graphic that I am using for the floor in the house.

that graphic is a very large file but I will try and see if I can make it smaller size. I have already put it down to 16 bit and I will not go down any more. 8 bit sucks!

Tough, half-life1 textures are 256 colors, ie. 8-bit. Game won't work with that.

You are also limited to 512x512 textures - and those cause lag, though extra splitting. You are best keeping it at 256x256 or below. Textures larger than 512x512 cause odd issues, especially if something splits them.

Use the irfanview link I sent you, it has some *okay* dither options. Adobe Photoshop could take that texture from 16 to 8-bit without any visible difference though. Just be sure to use a local adaptive palette.

PS. Here's your image, 8-bit, with Irfanview's Flyod-Steinburg dithering.

I can't tell the difference... And Adobe could do a much better job, statistically, at least. I just don't feel like opening it for this. ^_^

Ugh time travel >.<. Just make sure you don't make it a borderline cheatmap like orc_arena (in other words just waves of monsters to kill for xp). Good luck with this project.

Whats wrong with time travel? If we are going to get Old_Helena, that will be time travelling too.

We already have helena after the attack, all rebuilt and cool. How are the players' going to save helena during the attack if it isn't time travel. I hope you get what I'm saying.

I seriously doubt we're going to time travel back to old helena when it was overrun by orcs. I figured it was going to be more like a random event when you trans to helena, you have a low chance of doing the old helena as if it was being raided by orcs.

Tut's are for nubs. Tut's dont help you in any way but tell you what to exactly do, its like a cheat. You will never get better until you teach your self. Also, not a bad story drid, but spice it up a little. I also wanted to ask, how is a orc smart enough to be a wizard? I kinda like the idea, keep your imagination going drid.

also pimp, loosten up man.

No, that's exactally what we're gonna do. :D

It was an excuse to bring back the original Helena map, since Lord K gave me the source and all. It's a little redundant now that we have Foutpost... It'll become super-redundant, if this becomes another siege map. But I r thinking Pimpsta has one too many projects on his plate to finish any one of them. I was hoping he'd at least fix the AMX voter for me.

Shamanism is more about balls than brains. Orcs have huge webos. ;)

Thanks, It took me like 10 minutes to think that all up and write it down.
If I had lots of time to think it up, it would be more descriptive and "spicy."
