Secret areas tend to be, y'know, secret. At least until someone finds them and spreads it like wildfire through word of mouth or threads like these.

Seen being the keyword. That topic states the secret exists, nothing more.

Edit: Wait, I said mentioned as well :p. I found that topic after the secret tbh.

No there is actually another secret area, one with credits incase you want to know.
Good luck finding it though! Getting to that big area with the green doorways is easy.

Check back in five minutes and you'll have a screenshot.

Edit 1: Holy ****ing shit the internet is slow here. I'm gonna fold a piece of paper into a boat while the image uploads, hang on.

Edit 2: Xeropace, good luck finding this.

All the fanciness will be gone when I finally get around to releasing a more stable version of islesofdread2 though... Thothie is right, the secret areas really destabilize the map.

But I'll also add that it was much more stable before JAN2010a! So it's not entirely my fault that it crashes so often.
And islesofdread2 is still more stable than the_wall :p

Britney Spears is more stable than The_Wall, so that's not much to be proud of. ;) It's yet to get hit by a crash on my server, but I suspect that's just my ent settings. Again, not Skillasaurs fault - high level spell flinging beasties just eat a lot of resources, and my expansions were more than overambitious. Only thing I can blame him for is sprite-based lighting, and I've since taken care of that.

In its defense, however, nearly all the overhead is actual game play - there's not a secret chamber in the whole place. ;) (Although I was considering adding one, before I started getting nailed by alloc block errors.)

Nothing's changed in islesofdread2 since JAN2010b though. It should be just as stable (or unstable) as ever. If you mean it was more stable before JAN2010a - well - it wasn't around before JAN2010a - you didn't have the advantage of massive MP FN tests. I am surprised it isn't much more unstable, however - the active edict count is well beyond The_Wall or indeed, any other map. I used to use Thornlands to see how close we were to the model count limit, but now I use islesofdread2 - as it hits it much faster. ;)

I did several non-[FN] tests on my own (crappy, laggy, crashy) server with eight people and rarely had any problems. Why would I lie about that o_O
Also, if I remove the secret areas, my map's entity count is lower than quite a few other really big maps, such as daragoth. So even though I spammed a lot of foliage (in the gameplay area) it's not all that bad. And I've yet to find the spot from where you see 100k epoly, which you claim there is...

tl;dr:
JUN2008a: Hey this map is quite stable!
JAN2010a and onward: Hey this ma*CRASH*

Looks like you're totally oblivious to the point I'm trying to make.
So, just for the record:
1) I'm not ripping on the_wall; I only stated that it's less stable than my remake of islesofdread2.
2) I was referring to JUN2008a because my remake ran very nicely in that version. But ever since JAN2010a it's very crashy. This makes me look bad and while the overzealous secret areas I shoved in are certainly destabilizing the map (which is why I'm going to remove them), the crashiness isn't my fault alone.

Didn't say you were lying - I indeed said you did non-FN tests. I suspect what you got in those tests was a combination of fresh server, non-FN, and luck though. The active edict count, cycles, and memory used up is far beyond that of any other map. Only explanation I have for why it works at all, is that there's so few scripts on the map. Only three scripted models come into play that aren't part of the standard precache, and only three fully AI'd scripts - two of which are includes of one another, and only a handful of those active at any given time. So the script side of this map generates almost no overhead, compared to most.

Finally beat that map with Skillasaur and found the other secret.

Someone buff that maps reward/make the map easier... It's so not worth it right now >_> Especially as the Ether Gloams run and regen to full faster than you can kill them... Only way we killed one was I got lucky and found it twice within 30 seconds and used 2 bludgeon rages on it.

The second, if you go to the pit area and lure it there, they seem to never run far enough way to hide, they just aggro straight back if you stand around the pit. Still took ages and the NPC runs faster than anyone so he often likes to die in the middle of nowhere.

Suggest having one player ready with Blizzard, and another with a big hammah. Critter has minimal resistances when manifest, and when half frozen and stunned it takes a lot longer fade - plus you can see which direction it runs off due to the glow shell.

Tried this with Hoarfrost circles. Even if you can see what direction they run in, the glow shell just randomly disappears (even their own ether shell) and then the ether is gone... Sometimes just round the corner, sometimes gone for 10 mins :p

Plus Argrath (Agrath, w/e) gets hit by AoEs so Blizzard and Hoarfrost are a no-no when he's around.

They both do little damage... But Frost Bow works, if yer paranoid or lack a third player to dedicate exclusively to watching him. ;)

The glow shell only lets you see what direction he runs off, of course. It fades off quickly. Eventually, he'll stalk you, so try to lure him into one of the far clearings in the map, where there aren't a lot of options for him when running - this will also cause him to return faster, as he'll be less likely to get lost on his way back.

(See also total spoiler.)
