Thornlands is one of the maps I need to redo and intend to before MSC 1.1.

All I was going to do to it is set it up so not all the damned monsters spawn at once.

If I can get permission from Lord K - and you want to handle that for me, I'll give you the original source. Write if you are interested in handling this little job.

Daragoth needs the same treatment - and it needs it a LOT WORSE. But it could also use some other, more complex, lag reduction treatment.

Source with a lower case 'S'. :D

Daragoth, Thornlands, and several other maps need recompile prior to MSC 1.1

Daragoth I'll make part of the beta package - cuz it lags THAT badly. Maybe thornlands too, if it's a real substantial improvement (it's just not as critically bad).

My information.
Long as awesome maps exist: I exist, without good, high quality maps for Half-Life, Half-Life 2, and mods... I would not exist.

If the object you're mapping is too far away from the origin (the camera is always placed in the origin when you start Hammer), you might not be able to see it because of the back clipping plane.

I had the 3d window problem to.

The solution is to take one of the premade maps, delete everything on it, and save it as a blank, and thn use the blank for all new maps.

I used to map on HL 1, and before I stopped I got to about a mediocore skill level (I wish I could find that deathmatch map I made on my old comp...I posted it, but the site I put it on is dead).

Now i'm mapping HL 2, and i'm thinking of maybe making a "take a walk map" filled with cool light aesthetics.

My ambitious ambition now is to recreate star warses opening sequence. It would require two rooms, the top room would contain a yellow light enviroment map and would have a moving floor which would contain letter holes. Conceptually speaking, I still havent worked out how to make stars...

I could just place 100s light spots around it with very small radiuses, but that would take a lot of work perhaps to much ram. Really a texture sounds best, but even then i'd be left with the problem of the yellow light from above not condesending the stars.

To solve that I could simply use actual letter blocks...

Also for the music, I can get the actual opening soundtrack from the galactic battleground demo, but what about copyright? I could use midi...but I dont think you can on HL 2 (or 1) without coding.

Still some quirks to work out obviously, but i'm still quite bloated with my imagination, i'll work on some easier stuff first.

What use is any of this?

It actually seems like a lot more realistic proposition then actually creating a half life 2 map that looks like its supposed to be something real.

Good luck with the thornlands...heh.
