I can't figure out why everyone's folk's decided to get to breeding sometime in the second week of January... I'd understand if you were all born on September 1st, or a few days before, suggesting some hasty, possibly alcohol influenced, decisions made on New Years Eve... But why the 9th? Maybe I'm doing the math wrong...

You are. There are 40 weeks for a normal pregnancy, putting the conception date around December 17th. If we factor in normal distributions for early/late labor, we've got a lot of Hannukah/Christmas/NYE babies.
