Hi,

My girlfriend and I both play this game together, on separate PCs. She has gotten back into it recently and I've been helping her get stronger.
When we vote to change a map, the map transition begins, but the server vanishes for about 5 minutes and is not contactable. It will eventually show up after 5 minutes or so, on the map we chose, and be fully functional and playable.

This doesn't happen when I play alone. It seems that if we are both on the server at the same time on a map, the issue will occur when the map transitions next.

Are we tripping some sort of anti-multiboxing flag, or causing some other sort of chaos to the server?

Dawww... Reminds me of the days when my ex and I used to resolve all arguments, with Doom2, a serial cable, and double barreled shotguns.

But yeah, servers smashing on map change is sadly common, and more so with multiple players. If you wanna do a pain-in-the-butt prevention thing, ya might have one of ya disconnect before making a transition. Still might happen though, just makes the odds better.

If yer on a gauntlet map or otherwise restricted transition when this happens, you can votemap for the destination map on another server, it should let you vote and transition in as if you'd reached the map legit, even if yer in edana, provided you don't touch any other transitions meantime.

Just to make it clear, we live together and share the same internet connection.

We have tried both disconnecting when the vote is successful (when it says that the map will change shortly in the top left corner) and it still happens.

I can map transition with other players and it doesn't seem to be an issue. There's definitely no anti-same IP thing going on?

Definitely should not be a problem at all. If we did have that, then we wouldn't have so many people with multiple accounts with multiple characters buffing the drop/xp rate on servers. All running from the same computer, let alone the same IP.

Yeah, couldn't do that if we wanted to - it's handled engine side. Again, pretty common with multiple players - ya've just been lucky/unlucky. People used to log in with alternate accounts from the same network to boost the player XP bonus all the time.

Are you both sticking on the server until it boots you off automagically? If you are, try having one (or both) of you disconnect from the server just before map change. I've heard a few times a rumor that doing that helps, and it sorta does seem to sometimes help (or just be a placebo).

We both jump off when the server notifies that the votemap was successful, so about 10 seconds before the map change.

This is still a problem. We can essentially reliably crash a server at every map transition, 100% of the time, even if one or both of us leaves after the transition is triggered (but before it actually happens).

Any ideas?

I got nuttin. Might be something new on Valve's end. Only thing I can think of is to disconnect BEFORE triggering the transition.

If you can duplicate it on your own server, ya might check the log_msdll.log to get some idea of what's happening, or at least when it's happening.

Yeah, I can replicate it on our server. Can't right now though as I'm about to head off to Japan for a holiday.

Disconnecting before the transition is all well and good, but doesn't help when you need to meet certain eligibility criteria (such as shad palace secret room spawn point).

Should be ya just need to touch it, not actually activate it.

Have fun in nipponville!
