RKS Server Update Thread

The EU server is down due to network problems at this moment. Will update when I have more information.

I left my computer and my room to go get a drink... my friend who was in my room at that time decided to for undetermined reasons log onto the server's RDP and deleted the MySQL server and DB. He then proceeded to delete the domain controller and forced a reboot of that machine.

And don't worry about it. I think it's safe to say you're the most dedicated MS:C server host of all time. Noone has ever hosted thirteen servers, let alone thirteen incredibly stable, generally low-ping servers. So regardless of what happens, thanks for that!

Unfortunately, this will have to happen again.

All RKS servers will be shut down sometime within the next 2 days for a period of 6 hours. During this time, all server files are being deleted and reinstalled from scratch. This is a neccessary modification that cannot be avoided (eventually the servers will fail and not start back up if left alone). Read below for details. I will make a further post in this thread when a more exact time is determined.

How it happened...
// Short Story
The central RKS Server and the primary backup server was sabotauged by a FORMER friend of mine.

// Long Story
I left my computer and my room to go get a drink... my friend who was in my room at that time decided to for undetermined reasons log onto the server's RDP and deleted the MySQL server and DB. He then proceeded to delete the domain controller and forced a reboot of that machine. Since the domain was force deleted, the server simply crashed upon restarting making it impossible to do a recovery. The server was inaccessible from RDP, SSH. Forcing recovery mode failed on the server, as well as the safe mode. The server was as a result sent to the "reloading" queue where it was formatted and reinstalled with Windows. The backup server was also accessed and the backup directory was deleted and a wipe of freespace was initiated. No recovery was possible.

TCAdmin master server was also on the central server, and had to be reinstalled. Currently, the remote servers has been associated with the master server, however, instead of reassociating the game servers on each server, I have decided to simply wipe it and reinstall it as there are many other problems with the server at this moment.

PS: I don't run Pingboosters, stop sending me e-mail to turn them off.
PPS: It's not overloaded. There will be lag issues when there is maintenance being performed on it, or i am installing/deleting servers, etc. http://www.msremake.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=8312

All Servers online, I suggest that you add them to favoriates or something as not all are showing up on the server browser.

Yes, definitely let BOTH Thothie and me know, so that whichever one gets to it first can get it up and running.

Thothie, you have access to the TCAdmin control panel which is what most game server providers use. You have access read/write/modify all the server files, ability to restart the server, stop the server, and even to change the command line to the startup such that it will start up as another mod, etc. If there is anything that you can't do but you wish to do, let me know.

LMAO I was like WTF? When I was going through TCAdmin's server list. I pulled up the logs... turns out one of my admins accidentally clicked delete on it....

I shall have it back up.... "After the break..."

Yeah, I think I will have Thothie and you (Keldorn) both on as a admin on the MSC RKS servers. This should provide enough redundancies should something happen. I will pm you Keldorn with a login for the servers sometime tomorrow. Wow, both of us at SBU... interesting. =D I'm usually in the Comp Sci building, SB Union, or the library (and occasionally exploring the HSC and Hospital... lol).

Oh hi.
Not to bother, but RKS #5 is still down. Has been down for over a month now. RKS #14 and RKS #16 also seem to have died a while ago.

It's not that there's a lack of servers or anything, but I'm imagining three computers somewhere just doing nothing all day long. Wasted resources dawg!

Edit:
I just read your blag. Has something similar happened to RKS #14 and RKS #16? Will they be staying down until the new patch is out, too?

Keldorn seems to have restarted all the servers so it should all be visible now. There seems to be something causing the servers to crash in a mysterious way. The management system I use will query each server every 3 minutes. If it does not respond 3 times in a row, but the service is runing, it should restart the service. For some reason, this doesnt seem to be booting the server back up.
