A) Are there any models already made in this category?
B) Are they still in the works as a new weapon category?
C) If A's answer is "No, none have been made" and B is unequivocally true, then advance to D.
D) What designs would people like to see? Guisarme, spears, bardiches, jeddart, halberds etc

I only ask because I hear this is a dire needed modelling project.

B) Yes, we have 2handed polearms animations done.

D) No idea :p , one of each would be good for starting normal weapons.

related to D), i prefer spears and halberds, the other ones aren't bad aswell. Just saying they are my most prefered polearms :wink:

Do polish arms taste like polish sausages?

The forked spears the mummies use are the only original content likely to go into a polearm at the moment - one of the higher end magical ones, one would assume. There are about a dozen less than original content models lined up... The hard work, however, the animations, are all FER's original works - he's just trying to not take credit. ;)

I've not gotten 'round to sticking the polearms into FER's animation matrix and creating a new polearm script, nor the code work that will be involved adding the new weapon category - although we have had a proof-of-concept polearm script for a long time now, so the concept is viable at least.

Basic concept behind the series of weapons is that you want to be an optimal range from your opponent for optimal damage (not too close, not too far). Additionally, various polearms will allow manual blocking of blows, and some may allow you to push opponents who get too close away, or similarly allow you to escape when cornered. Some may also be thrown as spears.

Models we have laying around include halberds, gariseums, ransuers, volgues, glaives, magic staffs, spears, lances, quarterstaffs, and pretty much everything in-between.

Probably start with a full line, of four or five, from low to high end, and pad them out from there.

Putting dreams of mystical spears and mechanical halberds aside, I think.. some kind of tribal orc looking spear would be a good jump-on point too, maybe something with an ash or oak looking thick pole, tied on with sinew or leather, with the head being rather jagged like they sharpened it by bashing pieces off between cooling stages. Some diagonal and horizontal sweeps would be lovely, with a charged thrust, a throw worked in as a higher charge. Just tossing out thoughts.

As for some higher level ones, maybe some kind of thick valkyrie spear, decorated and heavy looking.

1904 polies altogether. I could definitely shave some off in a few areas but I don't think it's that bad of an issue. Smoothing needs to be fine tuned on that far right one.

Left to right is naginata, javelin, yari, trident, halberd, and halberd/bardiche. They're all unskinned, those are just crappy assigned materials up there.

I like the idea of a tribal orc spear, I'll have to work on that. I think i'll also have a ribbon or cloth to the end of the yari right under the blade, give it some character.

Maybe some mythical gigantic polearm too? Felewyn shard style? D:

The view angle of the pictures doesn't lend much to detail views, but hopefully it's thick enough? I mean any thicker and it doesn't look very wieldy. I don't have many references though.

I'd love to see some really detailed textures slapped on these and get them into the game, I'm hoping polearms would have longer range then the average weapon.

Save me some work, to be sure. Although I have to add the ones we have as well. Careful aligning the viewmodel.

Wow... Actual BMP's and SMD's... Even a sample model... I was all skeptically expecting some MS3D or 3DS file I couldn't do anything with. Good show! :D
