Who started the whole thing? Im talking the person where the whole idea and concept of MS poped into his or her head? The ORIGINAL creator of MS

I think Dogg was the original coder - he came and went a lot, and many other folks filled his shoes - which is why the code is the chaos that it is.
Lanethan has been doing the mythology a long time, but he once explained that the game actually predates his involvement with it (although only slightly I suspect).

Dogg was the "Oriognal" founder, he did the first coding, models, animations, maps etc.. people joined in from there.

I wasn't aware he did any models or anims, and I think the only map he ever made was a very basic map produced for entity testing.
A lot of people came up with Half-Life RPG mods around that same time (we're talking like a decade ago now). Wizard Wars, Dragon Mod, and (if you could count it) PVK all cropped up about then or soon after. Wizard Wars even had a single player campaign mode planned that probably would have wound up looking a lot like Mastersword. Svencoop RPG maps spawned a few years later, and they've threatened to spin off into their own mod now. I don't think Dogg's original intentions for Mastersword had been any different than these, and mayhaps, were even less grandiose, as it seems he really only intended it as an gaming experiment between himself and a few friends.
However, what set Mastersword apart, allowed it to survive, and evolve into the monster it is today, was the scripting system that Dogg created, and later, coupled with others, revisited and refined. This system allows the game world to expand indefinitely (even with the various engine-based limits we've been hitting) and allows this expansion to be done by fairly amateur coders, with far greater flexibility and ease than the Half-Life SDK could ever allow.
When he first created the concept, I don't think he saw the potential for what it could be, but by the time he revisited and enhanced the system, years later, he had certainly done so with that ever-expanding-world in mind.
Beyond that, the actual world creation credit goes to Lanethan, for without that, all we have is choppy bits of game akin to those found in the SvencoopRPG with no real purpose, cohesion, or story. The introduction of Lanethan's mythology and the lands and history of Daragoth turned what was once a simple coding experiment into another world.

Well, Dogg was one of the original coders, but wasn't there are the creation of the game. Lanethan also came in later after the game was started to add story and flavor to it. I actually think it was Evaan that created the game, wasn't it? That sounds right.

Oh the times of Evaan when it was illegal to map for MS under penalty of forum and WONID ban. MS development was stifled under that nazi rule.
I'm pretty sure the rat and boar are dogg's models tho.

I thought Evaan simply took over as project leader to keep Dogg in line and get an actual team going.
He told me he couldn't code - only script - and since there is no script without the code...
It'd make his leaving even a bigger shame than it is though. I wouldn't think the "mastermind" behind MS would be so easy to drive away (Dogg I understand, as he never seemed to see the project as anymore than a coding curiosity, and gets bored easily). However, I must admit, Evaan is one of the few scripters I've worked with who had the "big picture" in mind when developing his scripting concepts (rather than just what his own character would want, or what seemed neat at the time). Sucks that he was driven out of here shortly after implementing the level caps (as iffy as I was about them), as he was one of the few fully competent scripters we ever had. (One of three maybe, myself included.)

I still have his IM, so I suppose I could clear this up... But he's long gone. He's "absolutely disgusted" with certain elements of this community, and just isn't willing to deal with it anymore. :\Stoned said:

The closest thing to a 'book' is that Hem printed out all the lore he could find (afaik) and stapled it together.

You could ask me for some lore questions every once in a while, I always enjoy reading up on new lore. This reminds me, will we ever see a weapon or sword that was used by Ghale?
