NS could be twice as alive if it wasnt for the graphic revolution on games, which turned everyone into pussies who wont play something that looks bad (not that NS look remotely bad)

I think it more or less has to do with the number aimbots, they never EVER join the aliens either, sooo they are pretty obvious....

Glad to see MSC is being updated though.

MSS might kill MSC like NS2 would kill NS, but not just because of graphics. Because source can handle more of MS's demands without crashing. There's also displacements, and I'm pretty sure you can use the carve/cut/cleave whatever-its-called all you want.

But no matter what, MSS will never be as AMAZING as MSC, given all of the trouble you guys have to go through to get these features into HL1.

i agree, MS:C always has potential to be better and better, but with HL1 i think you can only do soo much befor it would just be easy to do in Source, but then again we'll just have to see what awesome things people can still make up

Yay! More stuff, but that means longer wait for patch.... :(

The dragon axe was amazing enough, can't wait for neckhunter and this "more items".

And I also agree that mss will never be as good as msc.

Well I didn't mean that, I just meant that MS:C gets a few extra "achievement unlocked"s for pulling all of this off on HL1.

No offense MSC devs, but i'm hoping MSS will be just as good if not better because HL1's engine hates my Radeon, plus ragdolls, ragdolls are almost always great.

I see what you mean, but 90%+ of game remakes suck compaired to the original :(

I just need more functions for a game, to me graphics don't matter.
So this looks like a good thing, I hope.
I mean as long as it is interesting it should be a good game.

The main reason I poured so much into this mod for as long as I did (and I suppose, still do) was in order to hold onto the hope, however thin, that it would attract enough of an audience to form a basis to populate MSS, both in terms of players, and developers.

Hesitancy to learn from the errs in the core of MSC, coupled with the taking on of some of the worst elements of its community has made me fret for the future of MSS, but not nearly so much as the limited amount of fresh blood my efforts have managed to procure for the project. DrKill and Dogg are surely great assets to have, indeed, but DrKill is no doubt as nearly as old school as I am, and Dogg has abandoned the project before, thus I fear, without equally capable and dependable personages, even more dedicated to the cause and of greater youth, it may yet fail to stumble into fruition.

Nonetheless, for Master Sword to survive, it *must* move to Source or some similar, modern, main stream engine. Hardware manufacturers abhor legacy support, as it is counter to their efforts to sell new hardware, and software companies abhor same as it means more work for them, with little promise of profit. MSC currently rests atop a tower of very reluctant cards, the removal of any one of which could cause it to topple down to its demise, and no doubt, one day, sooner or later, this will happen. (I am, indeed, quite surprised it hasn't happened already.)

Even if MSS were to be released within the hour, however, it will be a long, long time before it expands to the immensity of the current MSC game world. That is the only unavoidable shortcoming I see that will, no doubt, be of long standing. Eventually, however, with some luck, it will fulfill its promise, and be every bit the encompassing world MSC has become. By the time that happens, most likely, it will be the only way you can experience Master Sword, period, for by then Goldsrc will likely have gone the way of the dodo. It may even be, by that time, that Source is the legacy engine holding on for its dear life, and yet another team, will have to move the game to yet another engine.

So MSS *must* succeed, or all the efforts all the previous artists have sunk into all the many variants of Master Sword will have been for naught.

If all goes well, it'll take long but not TOO long, atleast as far as maps. When I get on a roll, I can create something about the size of Edana on the source SDK in just a day. And, lil bonus here, carve tool isn't extra forbidden!

We can also get a large list of prefabs, even with scripts in them, along with easier entities.

Oh yeah! One more thing, we need agents to abduct some LUA scriptors away from Garry's Mod to come help out.

(Why don't we have a cool thread like this in the MSS section?)

Wasnt that LUA stuff easily modified or something? there was some chat about that here but cant remember well.

By the way, I was thinking that maybe if everything was scaled down (like in ESF), then maps could be way bigger than they are.

Scaling is dynamic in Source, so there's no need. LUA scripting could be locked, but last I heard, there was to be none in MSS. Dogg did a pretty good job with the old MS scripting system, for all its flaws, so if he can pull a repeat performance, his custom script system might work better than LUA. However, so many Source developers are familiar with LUA, that it'd be a far better option, in terms of attracting new developers with minimal required training.

Really shoulda had an update out over a month ago.

MiB had to move recently, and doesn't have his net back up yet. I suspect his apathy may also be at play. (No doubt the deleted posts being exemplary of its cause.)

SFAIK the only remaining issue was fixing up the new Server->FN write system to be dependable enough to use as a new bank system and making marking of the recently revealed cheats reliable. I've pleaded with him to drop the bank if it'll get a release out sooner, but I'm afraid the anti-cheat thing is a must-have given how long the recent saboteur's post lingered in the FN section.

If you want to get the patch released sooner, please donate a minumum amount of $10 USD to the Dev Team. You can PM MiB for details on forms of payment.

*shrug* Send fan-mail to MiB.

At least the player base seems pretty strong ATM. I can't tell from the FN logs these days, but every time I hit up the browser there's at least 6 players on line (albeit, usually among 5 servers). That's stronger than a few months ago, but this is likely just due to the fact that school's out. :/
