hello, I've been trying to play recently, and I get frequent lag spikes and cl_flushentity packets.

Make sure your Half-Life is up to date. (Library, right click Half-Life, Click Properties, Updates.) Launch it (start training room.)

Make sure you do NOT have a folder called: %steam_path%/steamapps/<username>/half-life and that your MSC is instead in %steam_path%/steamapps/common/half-life/msc (If the old install still exists, uninstall Half-Life, manually delete the files, reinstall Half-Life, start it, restart Steam, then reinstall MSC.)

Check your network cvars are somewhere in this ballpark:
Code:
cl_updaterate 20
cl_cmdrate 30
fps_max 999
rate 20000 //may not report
cl_rate 20000 //may no longer exist
ex_interp 0
cl_cmdbackup 6 //may no longer exist

Make sure -num_edicts 1500 appears in the launch properties. (Right click Master Sword in your library, click Properties, click Launch Options.)

Check that Steam has your localization correct (Right click Steam tray icon, click Settings, Click Downloads, check Download Region is somewhere near you.) and that your bandwidth isn't limited.

See if all characters are affected. (Might be corrupted item, or maybe the shield issue is still affecting you.)

my msc install is in the proper place and my hl is up to date. Some of those values were off and I changed them fps_max from 120 to 999, ex_interp from .1 to 0 and cl_cmdbackup from 2 to 6. I have -num_edicts 1500 in my launch properties and I am in the correct download region. The problem still persists and it's on all my characters.

Blarg, I was already in *shrug* land.

Steam, seems to be in a similar place:
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_art ... -QJLN-1999

(You know you're boned when they tell you to check for viruses / update your video drivers.)

This video deserves a special mention just for being so annoying, even if it basically says what I already said:

But yeah, could be a network problem, so I got nuttin. Maybe you're wireless, and need to use a direct connect?

I appear to have fixed it by lowering cl_updaterate and cl_cmdrate
