Obsidian Helmet

http://www.filefront.com/15814345/Obsidian%20Helm.bmp
Obsidian is the result of lava flow coming in contact with water. This results in a glassy mineraloid called Obsidian. The helmet would be more for stability/stun resistance, but could provide a small amount of fire resistance due to it's background. It wouldn't be much to switch out for, maybe 40-60% stun resist with 25-10% fire resistance, respectively. The main idea would just be a new helmet to wear.

Ice Armor Revamp

http://www.filefront.com/15806619/Ice%2 ... pt%205.bmp
Not my greatest work, (lol.) but I see it as alright. A set of plate mail buried under a thick block of ice and snow slowly became encased in very small layer after layer of ice, so long that the ice actually becomes infused with and part of the armor. The ice's density is so much so that both solid and fire weaponry are of little effect. Of course, the drawback would be that the armor is so terribly cold on the wearer, that it's fairly uncomfortable to be struck with an ice weapon. (And/or slicing weaponry, slight resistance to bashing, but I don't think that's possible, so sdfgadsg.)

lol

Anyway, I like the helm. I'm not sure if we need another helm with fire resistance, though. Suppose we could do 10% so it doesn't stack as well with Phoenix armor? Either way, good reskin on that thar.

We definitely need new helmets and headgear so props on the obsidian helm.

The ice armor feels incomplete to me for some reason. Perhaps it needs to sport some kind of design like the PA? Or, if possible, perhaps you could add some forbidding ice sickle spikes? I'm not a modeler or an artist so I can't really envision what that would look like but it might be a cool idea if you could pull it off.

I'm liking the design.

I think there is a bit too much blue or something though. Perhaps it could be balanced in some way? Here is one idea: Make the top 15-20% (a little below the shoulders) look like a normal (dark colored) armor. Below this point, have the ice effect come in gradually, intensifying the closer it gets to the feet, so that it looks like the frost is slowly engulfing the armor. It might be cool if just a tiny portion of the design were not yet frozen.

If the ice was still engulfing the armor, it would make the backstory moot, and I don't really like the thought of having to see people run around with half normal half ice armor on, it just doesn't seem appeasing if you visualize it.
Also, along with the backstory becoming moot, the armor would also be less effective, as it wouldn't have entirely fused with the ice yet, and it's strength wouldn't be as much as it is.

I like the armor, i think it would be better to have a reskin of an armour or helmet with lightning effects, since there isnt any of those ingame yet >_>

That is a fair point. Although, I still recommend you work with the color a bit to provide some contrast. I'm not saying it doesn't look good, but that I think it is possible to improve it. I don't really know though how, since I am not an artist.

Necropost.
I don't know why I never put these in the random experiments thread. Guess I didn't think about it at the time.
Oh well, might as well use this thread since it's here.

Made this a bit ago, was just screwing around in Photoshop.

Made this today because I was tired of looking at Avacado's abuse of overlays and he sent me the PSD.

These are just design experiments. I tried to mess around with MS3D and add something onto the armours, but it ended painfully. I also remembered I can't UVMap, so I stopped trying.

Oh, and I made this sometime because I was bored.

Figured maybe it's usable somewhere. I'm working in MS3D, but I have no idea what I'm doing, so this probably won't last long.

40% stun + 25 fire res would make no sense, better stick to fire helm unless your fire level is 12 or less. 60% is decent though.

EDIT: Owait, old post was old. The obsidian helmet looks neat though, great use of an underused model.

1) Not sure, was just an experiment with a design I brainstormed.
3) What, you don't carry catapult ammo on you? Pfft, amateurs.

I'm still working on something in MS3D amazingly, and what I have is kinda neat, but I'm hitting some snags.
I also couldn't find any HL1 MS3D tutorials, so once I finish what I'm working on, I won't have any idea what to do from there.

I can *usually* get any MS3D mesh into a working Half-Life SMD - although it's tricky if there's new animations involved, and it's sloppy sometimes. Did it with the polearms, in anycase.

One limitation to remember is that Half-Life doesn't really support "auto-tiled" textures - it'll try to fill the polys with a single copy of the texture instead.

December first, 2010 eh? Damn.

Anyway, I did this because I was bored. I remember now that the UVmap on this (At least, the one I had, which I don't think is the right one, but 2010 me was dumb.) is complete shit.

Also, all that jazz you tried to knowledge me with, Thothie, like the correct stuff for some skinning and the advice for modeling, yeah I had no idea what you were talking about back then :p. I may start visiting these forums often again. I'm far more eager now to not be an idiot than I used to be.
