Goblins
From MasterSword Continued Wiki
The Goblins are the result of early experiments by Lor Malgoriand on the Orcs granted to him by Torkalath at the beginning of the Age of Blood. Although smaller than the Orcs, Goblins are nearly as strong and much more cunning. They generally choose to live in natural cave systems.
Unlike the Orcs, who breed like most sapient mammals, Goblins reproduce by fission. Upon reaching a certain age an adult Goblin will split into four to sixteen smaller goblins. An adult goblin, capable of this breeding, is called a Hobgoblin.
Goblins have very short life spans, less than a dozen or so years, and are additionally extremely aggressive, even, and perhaps especially, towards their own kind. These factors prevent the over breeding that their reproductive habits would otherwise be prone to cause.
Goblins generally break up into breeding tribes, each with a Hobgoblin at its head. Generally only one Hobgoblin is allowed to lead any given tribe, and conflicts of leadership from emerging Hobgoblins are resolved through battle. Hobgoblins that fail such contests, and survive, are banished from the tribe. Occasionally, multiple Hobgoblin outcasts will form small, temporary, Hobgoblin tribes.
