When you go to join your first game, be sure to look for a server running the map "Edana". Edana is the ideal starting map, as it is designed for new characters. Then you must create a character. You will be presented with several options while making your character, such as your character's name, gender, and starting weapon (See Creating a New Character for more information). Once your options have been selected, you'll spawn at the Temple of balance in Edana. And so starts your journey...

Feel free to wander around the temple, talk to a priest or two, then wander out of the temple. Here, you'll see your first enemy...a giant rat.

  • To attack them with a melee weapon (Knife, sword, mace, axe), get within reasonable melee distance and then press your attack key (Mouse1 by default). In your lower righthand corner of your screen, you should see an attack message like "You attack a Giant Rat. (60/23) HIT! 0.5 damage" if you were successful or "You attack a Giant Rat. (12/23) MISS!" if you missed.
  • For ranged weapons (Bows) stand at any distance and tap your attack key (Mouse1 by default) to fire a projectile. Take into account the angle of your shot and the offset of the arrow by the bow. Practice makes perfect.
  • Magic is an interesting way to kill things. It must be prepared first, although it does more damage than most attacks. To prepare a spell press your magic quickslot key ('2' by default) to cycle through your memorized spells, once you find the spell you want press your attack key (Mouse1 by default) to select it, then press it again to prepare. If you have a scroll of a spell, you must open your pack or spellbook and double click the scroll to prepare it. Preperations take a bit of time, but once it is prepared, just tap your attack key to cast the spell. Spells use mana, so keep an eye on your mana flask.

Rinse and repeat until it dies. When a creature dies, they may drop money or items, to loot the corpse move to it and press your get items key ('x' by default).

By order (and coding) of the omnipotent Thothie, all creatures in the world of Daragoth shall become more difficult to defeat as player count and player level increases. This is due to a diabolical plot called "level-ramping." In order for our newer players to avoid being totally owned we advise, no...we are TELLING you to stay out of high-level maps and to work with other low-leveled players on the respective maps.
Yet another of Thothie's diabolical plans is "treasure ramping." As with monster ramping, more people=more stuff, but in this case it is in your favor. Having more people and of higher levels will yield better loot. In theory this will encourage players to work together and *gasp* socialize and prevent those danged cheaters we all hate so much. This has worked for the most part although it has turned off more than its fair share of solo players.
