Bears

Bears are massive animals who will aggressivly protect themselves. Be careful when encountering bears; any clear sign of aggression will draw the broodmother out of hiding. Not many people live to tell the tale upon encountering such a lumbering beast.

Bears are present in most parts of the world, bar the islands along the coast. A travelled adventurer will have seen:

• Black bears and their cubs - this is perhaps the most common breed of bears. They choose to dwell mainly in open plains, near forests, where food is in abundance.
• Brown bears and their cubs - rarer and stronger than their darker cousins. Their nature and chosen habitat is unclear.
• Polar bears and their cubs - the strongest of the bear breeds. Choosing to reside in the frozen north, their thick fur insulates them from the unforgiving cold and allows them to withstand immense punishment, be it from the climate or their quarry.

Legend tells us of several "bear gods" that reside in a "castle in the sky". Many villagers and adventurers choose to disregard this baffling idea, but a rumour is going around of someone who knows all to much about such a place.
